ApplyPRESIDENT Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology The Board of Trustees of Vaughn College invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of President to succeed Dr. John Fitzpatrick who has served with distinction for 16 years. Established in 1932 to provide training for aviation mechanics to support the burgeoning aviation industry this aviation maintenance school transformed itself to become an independent residential college offering master’s bachelor’s and associate’s degrees in a variety of engineering technology management and aviation studies. The College has just completed its strategic planning process which identified goals and directions which will inspire the Vaughn community and set its future direction. Currently Vaughn has a student population of 1800 students who work closely with nearly 200 faculty in rigorous degree professional and technical certification programs. Small classes dedicated teachers and a friendly diverse student population set the tone for the high quality of its distinctive education. The College promotes personal growth and leadership to create industry pioneers and lifelong learners who make significant contributions to the industries they serve. The College is particularly proud to support many men and women who are primarily first-generation college students and first-generation Americans as well as a high percentage of military veterans. Situated adjacent to LaGuardia Airport in Queens Vaughn is committed to student success. One of the most diverse colleges in the United States Vaughn has been designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution HSI by the United States Department of Education. Most recently the College added a state-of-the-art flight simulator laboratory invested heavily in the development of high-end engineering laboratories and is in the midst of a $40 million renovation and expansion of the academic and training facilities that will include a new library. The College is pleased to have recently secured funds from the Federal Aviation Administration and from The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for significant enhancements and expansion of the campus. Vaughn boasts a technologically advanced campus sweeping views of Manhattan and a culture of solid academic excellence that is among the best in its class. The next President is expected to begin serving in June 2014. The search committee seeks candidates who are eager to become immersed in life at Vaughn College. Strong candidates will have a demonstrated record of leadership the ability to inspire trust and to build relationships across various college constituencies as well as the capacity to fundraise at the highest levels. A deep knowledge and understanding of Vaughn’s academic mission is strongly preferred. Candidates should possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills be collaborative and creative and be able to articulate a vision to diverse audiences. In addition to a strong record of management in a complex environment candidates will possess a terminal degree or the equivalent. The Presidential Search Committee will begin to review candidate materials in late November 2013 and will continue until an appointment is made.
