Director of Aviation Job Details Summary The Director of Aviation is responsible for all aspects of eBay’s Flight Operations for world-wide travel on the corporate aircraft. Safety is the number one priority. The Director of Aviation works closely with an aviation services partner providing personnel staffing scheduling manuals safety certifications and a myriad of other functions. The Director of Aviation has total control over all activities of the aviation services partner creating the seamless blend of a strong team focused on providing the safest most professional and cost-effective solution to eBay’s flight operations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead a team of aviation professionals in the operation of a world-class flight department. Exercise authority as the individual charged with total control over all flight operations personnel and assets. Liaise with and ensure a strong working relationship exists with the aviation services partner. Monitor verify and amend as necessary all agreements manuals support functions regulatory compliance and most importantly safety programs for maximum performance. Establish and manage all vendor contracts related to flight operations including leases purchases services training maintenance needs equipment. Manage travel logistics and ensure alternatives are available when necessary to fully support our passengers. Ensure that executives and other travelers have a positive travel experience. Solicit feedback for improvements. Maintain a strong working relationship with the executive leadership team. Establish maintain and audit policies and procedures related to flight operations to meet and exceed all regulatory mandates. Ensure key programs between eBay and the aviation services partner such as Safety Management System SMS and IS-BAO compliance are an active part of the department safety and operations culture. Audit safety programs training maintenance flight operations to ensure regulatory and performance standards are met or exceeded. Review and anticipate potential changes for all aspect of the flight operations. Proactively adjust when a need arises. Benchmark with other departments and remain aware of aviation best-practices through corporate aviation organizations such as National Business Aviation Association NBAA and Flight Safety Foundation FSF . Liaise with the San Jose FAA FSDO and other aviation regulatory and compliance agencies controlling aircraft operation aircrew and aircraft certifications licensing and international operations. Ensure all formal paperwork for world-wide operations remains current. Establish and distribute operational metrics for financial reporting and flight activity to eBay support teams. Work with those teams to accomplish department objectives. QUALIFICATIONS Credentials and Competencies Minimum of five years as a Director of Aviation or equivalent title managing all aspects of a flight department with extensive knowledge of aircraft operation functions as well as regulatory and compliance requirements. Extensive experience with world-wide aviation operations as a pilot and a manager. Experience in negotiating leases and purchases in excess of $6 Million as a team member. Self-starter able to adapt to ever-changing requirements work across team lines within a company and create policies and guidelines as needed for the aviation team. Strong leadership and motivational skills. Able to work comfortably in a team setting to achieve needed objectives. Can lead a project as well as serve as a team member. Analytical thinker able to communicate well able to make changes and create new programs as needed. Comfortable when interacting with senior executives. Possess an FAA Airline Transport Pilot license with G-V rating. Possess an FAA First Class Medical Certificate. Education Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
