AIRCRAFT STRUCTURES ENGINEER (Airbus)

DEPARTMENT NAME:  Maintenance & Engineering

REPORTS TO:  Mgr. of Liaison Engineering

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Aircraft Structures Engineer will be responsible for developing structural engineering solutions to affect repair to the Allegiant Air aircraft fleet. This position also advises and provides technical expertise to Line Maintenance to ensure on-time fleet operations. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Research and provide data for the development of modifications to improve Allegiant fleet reliability
  • Provides oversight and engineering expertise to contracted repair agencies conducting heavy maintenance and/or structural repairs to aircraft components
  • Develop Engineering Repair Orders (ERO) for accomplishment of Structural Repairs
  • Develop Engineering Orders (EO) for the incorporation of modifications to aircraft structure or structures components
  • Coordinates repair plans with Materials/Purchasing, Coordinate with Maintenance Planning and Maintenance Control
  • Coordinate with aircraft heavy maintenance vendors to ensure approved data is used as the basis for structural repairs
  • Assist with CASP analysis and development of reliability improvement initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Liaison Engineering

 

INTERACTIONS:  

Interacts with all operations departments such as Ground Ops, Flight Ops, & In-Flight Services

 

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must pass a five (5) year background check and pre-employment drug screen
  • Must have authorization to work in the U.S. as defined in the Immigrations Act of 1986

 

EDUCATION:  

B.S. Degree in engineering, engineering sciences or aeronautics required, Airframe and Powerplant or FCC license preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Five (5) years experience as an engineer in 121 or 135 airline environments with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or ten (10) years experience in a 121 or 135 airline engineering department with an A&P License, Two (2) years Airbus engineering experience preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of aircraft structural repair design
  • Knowledge of and ability to understand OEM Structural Repair Manuals (SRM)
  • Familiarity with composite repair techniques
  • Knowledge of an ability to research ADS relating to DTA, CPCP and Ageing Aircraft  

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Some travel and onsite visits to MRO facilities

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift 50 lbs and work in a maintenance shop environment.  Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (High Visibility clothing, Ear protection, safety glasses) when required

Senior Industrial Mechanical Engineer
Division of Major Aerospace Corporation located near Seattle, Washington.

Summary:
Directs and coordinates activities of engineering department to design, manufacture, and test components, products, and systems by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Must have a background in tool design and the ability to solve engineering issues that arise on the production floor.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Directs department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.
  • Resolves problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
  • Analyzes technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects.
  • Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
  • Forecasts operating costs of department and directs preparation of budget requests.
  • Advises management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations.
  • Provides direction and example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the engineering activities.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages one subordinate supervisor who supervises a total of 11 employees in the Tool Design & Development. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Must understand and establish the parameters of for tool design and lead the interaction with the customers engineering departments. Must understand the principals of over bending and draw in tool design for specific materials and thicknesses. Must understand tonnage as it relates to press machines to effectively form parts.

[Note: This is a newly created position with a newly acquired division of a major aerospace company located near Seattle, Washington. The division is a "build to print shop" involved with sheet metal operations. Today it has been focused on legacy aircraft and requires knowledge of tool design and development. The engineering that is received from Boeing is generations old and is Mylar type drawings. The new Senior Industrial Mechanical Engineer will be required to reduce scrap and first time acceptable rate. The company is expecting to double in size with 3-5 years.

They have been in business since 1970 and are a dedicated aerospace parts and assemblies producer offering an extremely diverse manufacturing facility with state of the art equipment. In addition to many other manufacturing methodologies supporting aging aircraft fleets, they have a strong history of committed support of both in and out of production airframes, both military and commercial and specialize in difficult to produce assemblies with specific focus on adding value for their customers with a true commitment to teaming. They also specialize in complex program management that integrates multi-discipline aerospace manufacturing such as flight controls and part kits. In addition, they design and build all tooling in-house and on large work statement packages and partner by not charging for tooling, first article or any other development costs. They offer CNC machining up to 24 feet length, complex formed sheet metal in all variations from hydro-forming to pressure vessel - fluid forming techniques along with a highly capable assembly department. They are an approved source for Aircraft Structural Fusion Welding in virtually all alloys and are fully certified AS-9100 and NADCAP approved supplier.]

Airline Maintenance Services, Inc of Nashville Tennessee is excited to announce the opening of several positions for A/P Mechanics. The company has just signed a major contract with a regional airliner for line maintenance, run taxi and overnight checks. This requires a significant increase in staffing.
 
Successful candidates will possess an A/P certificate and their own personal tools. CRJ and ERJ experience is a plus but all training will be provided by the company. A "can do" attitude and the ability to solve problems under the pressure of time constraints are important. Wages are negotiable but normally fall between $18 to $25 per hour. A full benefit and retirement package is available. Relocation expenses are negotiable.
