Even though the airlines are in business to transport people from one place to another, they could not function without the help of many people on the ground, including those who take reservations and sell tickets, as well as those who help keep the airplanes operating on schedule.
The district sales manager works in a downtown office during regular business hours. To promote the airline, he or she also must attend many meetings and social affairs "after hours."
Managers are responsible for driving sales growth. they must implement plans to motivate their team to attain organizational, team and account goals, objectives and strategies. They must often resolve conflict, coach and develop others.
Typical Requirements and/or Experience
This is not an entry-level job. Vacancies are almost always filled by employees who move through the ranks. The combination of your demonstrable sales history, experience and enthusiasm for the aviation industry and strong leadership skills are required. Strong team management skills are expected as you lead by example, coach, mentor, and energize others toward goal attainment. Effective negotiation skills are critical to executing plans in a persuasive, professional manner. Must be able to show demonstrated success in capturing new sales opportunities and managing customer relationships for long term and repeat business. Managers should have a keen awareness of current events and future trends to promote sales growth.
BS/BA degree required. MBA or other Master's degree strongly preferred.
