General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. We have an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Power Electronics Engineer with experience in High Power Systems to join our San Diego team in the development of state of the art radar and high energy laser systems located in Rancho Bernardo CA.Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Responsible for applying innovative approaches to resolving unusual or complex engineering problems.
+ Perform as the responsible engineer for all aspects of a project including preparing and participating in design reviews maintaining schedules and developing assembly and testing plans.
+ Assignments will normally be outlined in terms of overall objectives and reviewed largely at completion.
+ Initiate the planning of engineering projects and actively track them in order to meet project goals.
+ Document findings communicate results to the engineering staff make technical presentations and may represent the organization as the prime technical contact.
+ Provide direction to design or technical staff and may lead a team of professional staff. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring proper engineering discipline is adhered to for all analysis and design.
+ Provide oversight and lead the derivation of design requirements based on upper level specifications analysis of alternative designs subassembly and module design verification testing peer review of hardware designs development and release of associated higher level test procedures and assembly aids for production failure analysis root cause identification and corrective action.
+ Responsible for digital and analog design methodologies and should be able to do system level design and analysis.
+ Focus on analog electronic design with a power emphasis.
+ Responsible for control circuits and interlocks for safe implementation of the power systems.
+ Performs other duties as assigned or required.
+ Typically requires a bachelors degree masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; fifteen or more years of experience with a bachelors degree thirteen or more years of experience with a masters degree or ten or more years with a PhD.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance is required.
+ Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles concepts theory and practice as well as project and/or program leadership including organizing planning scheduling and coordinating workloads to meet established project deadlines or milestones.
+ Experience with PADS PSpice PCB Fabrication high power battery systems DC to DC Converters Power Conditioning and control systems is required.
+ High power experience with both power supplies and large battery systems is highly desirable.
+ Previous experience with avionics is desired.
+ Must possess the ability to contribute to the development of new concepts and principles; resolve unusually complex technical problems; serve as spokesperson on projects and/or programs; and be a technical expert in one or more areas of engineering.
+ Strong communication presentation and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective leadership interface with other departments all levels of management professional and support staff customers potential customers and government representatives. The successful candidate will be customer focused.
+ Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment.
+ Able to work extended hours as required.
+ Previous High Energy Laser experience is a plus.Travel Percentage Required:
