We have an immediate opening for a Product Engineer, Military Programs in Independence, OH.
Reporting to the Military Project Head, the Military Product Engineer provides timely and accurate Engineering support to all functional groups (Program Management, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, etc.) on Landing Gear components and assemblies for Programs which UTAS is either Build-to-Print or Design Authority.
Provide strong technical leadership for all aspects of the Military Programs assigned while working alongside the following functions at UTAS:
Program Management to ensure projects are properly managed to achieve on-time delivery in accordance with project plans/milestones.
Integrated Product Team (IPT) to ensure flawless Engineering integration into overall program requirements.
Divisional Engineering to ensure overall Engineering integrity is achieved, compliance to Engineering procedures, lessons learned are addressed and a robust trouble-free product is developed and maintained. Lead Engineering program activities including:
Perform Liaison Engineering function for UTAS Landing Systems as the technical focal with our Customers and Suppliers.
Submit technical data to the Customer for approval/acceptance per contractual requirements.
Support internal and external (Customer) requests such as re-designs, product improvements based on life-cycle data (wear issues, field failures, cost reduction, etc.) and product troubleshooting (shock leakage, fit checks, cycle testing, etc.)
Foster strong Customer relationships through accountability, transparency and credibility. Integration and Planning activities including
Develop and be accountable for overall Engineering schedule and budget, harmonize priorities and objectives with functional groups (Program Management, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, etc.)
Responsible and accountable for accuracy of all related Engineering tasks and associated completion dates.
Set Engineering priorities and objectives with a strong drive to meet expectations.
Communicate progress and roadblocks with the Integrated Product Team (IPT) and Engineering Management.
Review, recommend and coordinate design/drawing change activity with the Customer and/or other company disciplines, and assure proper coordination between Operations, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality. For Build-to-Print Programs, the Product Engineer shall: Interpret and convey the intent of changes made to drawing-related documents to ensure consistent interpretation and implementation by all individuals impacted by the associated changes.
Verify the accuracy of Customer-generated documents and coordinate with the Customer, as necessary, to make any required corrections
Maintain the Engineering Bill of Material (BOM) in the UTAS PDM system (Matrix).
Initiate the release of drawing-related documents and changes in the PDM system.
Review change requests (ECPRs) for productibility issues, drawing clarifications and cost reductions. Support the change board function to ensure proper and timely change incorporation.
Support the Customer and/or Government representatives as required.
Generate change proposals with both cost and time estimates.
Support spares aftermarket (MRO) activity as required. For Proprietary Design-Responsible Programs, the Product Engineer shall: Perform the responsibilities of Build-to-Print Programs plus the items listed below.
Initiate drawing changes as required by developing and maintaining the product to customer requirements, which may include any number of the following:
o Drawing/model maintenance and change forms
o Check drawings and documentation prepared by other engineers
o Configuration management and interchangeability
o Generating 3D stress models (CATIA, Pro-E) for analysis o Kinematics analysis
o Help with maintaining weight reports, static stress reports, fatigue reports
o Prepare Acceptance Test Reports (ATPs)
o Generate change proposals with both cost and time estimates
o Oversee project plans to ensure proper implementation of design changes or test requirements
Support in-house and field investigations.
Assist with reviewing of contracts that contain technical content Prepare and release engineering documentation to ensure compliance to contracts
Develop measurable action plans and ensure actions are completed on time
Perform, lead or facilitate Engineering investigations into product failures and ownership of the root cause and corrective action process.
Other tasks as assigned by the Manager based on skillset and qualifications. In addition, comply with company and site
Education / Certifications
Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Structural Engineering
Minimum of (10) years of experience within the Aerospace industry that includes experience in Product Development or Product Sustainment of transport or military-type aircraft.
Demonstrated Project Management experience
Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) as per ANSI Y14.5-2009.
Ability to modify and create complex Catia V5 and Pro-E models, assemblies and drawings.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to maintain good working relationships with internal and externals customers
Ability to interface with a multi-disciplined (Design/Stress/M&PT/Performance/R&M) team of Engineers.
Capability to work with the UTAS PDM System (SmarTeam, Matrix, etc.) or equivalent.
Excellent communication skills (written/verbal) and ability to facilitate discussions in team environment
Good understanding of common Landing Gear materials and manufacturing processes.
Strong ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings, Parts List and Process Specifications and how it related to overall product definition.
Strong understanding and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.
Critical traits including: leadership, high attention to detail, high energy, ability to effectively navigate in a high-paced production environment, decisiveness, well-organized, sense of urgency, positive attitude, long-term interest in Engineering disciplines and an unwavering commitment to honest and ethical behavior
Must be able to verify U.S. Person Status as defined by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
