Aviation Opportunities

Aviation Career Overviews

Aviation offers many varied exciting and rewarding opportunities.

Entry level positions with an airline, cover a wide variety of operations and duties. Most of these positions involve extensive customer service contact requiring strong interpersonal and communication skills. No previous experience is required, although you may be required to work evening or early-morning hours, adhere to a strict physical appearance, and lift heavy objects. Entry level positions such as Pilot, or Mechanic require special licenses issued by the Federal Aviation Administration, and/or specific previous work experience. Specific hiring requirements for these positions may also be obtained by viewing the job posting details or contacting the specific airline.

To eliminate any confusion, all positions are regarded as customer service positions. Every second an airline employee spends with a passenger or potential passenger is critical. Most passengers choose their airline based on the quality of service received. Passengers may never see you, but they will remember their telephone conversation, the comfort of their flight, and the way their baggage arrived; safely, timely at the correct destination. They will thank you by flying your airline over and over again.

Employers receive your resume and cover letter via email and also within their applicant tracking folders on Avjobs. You receive a confirmation page that your resume and cover letter was sent successfully. You may or may not also receive an email from the Employer confirming the receipt of your resume. Please note that some Employers and Recruiters may not respond immediately to your resume submission, and some may not respond at all. After you apply for a job, your complete application is then listed in your Job Cart under the Jobs I have Applied for section and can be tracked from there. Note Some employers use the Apply button to take you directly to their company website. For those job applications, and for applications that you send directly to the company via email, fax, or postal mail, a record of the application will not show up on your Jobs I have Applied for page unless you print the required documents from the job posting using the Avjobs automated document preparation system.

Shortage of qualified applicants cited in recent survey

Now is the time to apply like never before.

Although Avjobs.com applicants are applying for jobs available in the Avjobs Applicant System, other applicants appear to be taking the day off?

A recent survey from the Manpower Group cited that almost 49% of employers in North America are reporting difficulty in filling positions due to the lack of available talent. According to Manpower, "This figure represents the highest proportion of employers reporting difficulty since the start of the economic downturn in 2008 and a 4% increase over last year's survey"  For a complete copy of the survey, click here.

Job Search Tips
Of course we can give you all kinds of tips on how to get your next job or make a career change, but in the end its all up to you. If you don't take action, you'll never experience change. You need to take the first step.

First and foremost, you need to apply for jobs. Finding the jobs and getting your paperwork together is half the battle. That's where Avjobs comes in. The Avjobs Applicant System will automatically prepare your resume to professional aviation standards, and is packed with thousands of jobs that need to be filled "yesterday." That's right, "YESTERDAY!"

It is a common misconception that all jobs are filled in 30-45 days. The fact is, most jobs go unfilled for more than 180 days due to the lack of qualified applicants. Recruiting qualified applicants is a much more complex problem than most applicants think. Applicants stop applying, because they ASSUME the position is filled, and the position goes unfilled for an even longer period of time. In most cases, the older a posting is, the fewer applicants will apply for it.

Employers post and manage their own jobs in our system. When their postings get filled, they remove them. Avjobs provides the framework to make the recruiters' job easier. If the posting is still in the system, it is there for a reason. You should apply for every position that you are qualified for and interested in.

Before developing our Applicant System, we sent a questionnaire to over 7000 participating Avjobs Employers. The request to remove the "Date Posted" field from job postings was unanimous. The average time to fill a vacant position (among responders) before using the Avjobs.com Employer System was 204 days. Some even reported that they had the same position open for up to 2 years.
