Must be able to work 4:30pm – 1:30am along with any required overtime which may include weekends. Night shift premium offered ($2/hr).

Summary:

The Fitter is responsible for assembling structural frameworks and housings from raw material. They prepare and fabricate metal components for the welding process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications using squares rulers and measuring tapes.
  • Align and fit parts according to specifications using jacks turnbuckles wedges drift pins pry bars and hammers.
  • Set up and operate fabricating machines such as brakes rolls shears flame cutters grinders and drill presses to bend cut form punch drill or otherwise form and assemble metal components.
  • Position or tighten braces jacks clamps ropes or bolt straps or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting.
  • Chip or grind off excess weld slag or spatter using hand scrapers portable grinders or arc-cutting equipment.
  • Review any parts received from kitting area and compare the parts to the print.
  • Fabricating and revising fixtures jigs and gauges.
  • Operate and/or use forklifts cranes hoists slings grinders cutting torches hand tools drills punches and instruments of measurements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Associates or Technical School.
  • Minimum of one-year of related experience and/or training.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements:

  • This position may require a government security clearance.

  • Reads and understands blueprints schematics and/or measuring devices.

Physical Demands:

  • Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Ascending or descending ladders stairs scaffolding ramps poles and the like using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Creates a work environment that promotes and encourages team members participation to attain common and individual objectives.
  • Operate a motor vehicle forklift and/or other heavy equipment.
  • Picking pinching typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.
  • Prolonged periods working on feet using tools and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.
  • Read instructions operate machines and inspect parts produced.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists hands and/or fingers.
  • Visual inspection involving small defects small parts and operation of machines.
