Responsibilities Provide trajectory analysis and optimization support for spacecraft launch reentry vehicles and missiles for Earth-centric and interplanetary missions. This role will support conceptual designtechnology assessments pre-launch analysis for on-contract programs launch and Mission Ops and end-of-life phases. Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO) trajectory design will be a focal point for this role. The position will have support trajectory optimization for contested space applications. Selected candidates will be expected to be technical leaders and provide critical insights to a wide range of customers. Candidates must perform significant customer interfacing for both internal and external customers and are expected to bring in new department customers and tasks. Applicants must possess good communication skills and the ability to performlearn the jobs key functions. Key Functions Develop and apply advanced techniques for solving flight mechanics and astrodynamics problems Perform trajectory simulation and performance optimization of launch vehicles upper stages missiles spacecraft and reentry vehicles Implement optimization theory including calculus of variations approaches andor non-linear programming Analyze and optimize chemical propulsion low thrust propulsion and hybrid propulsion orbit transfers Support launch vehicle ops and spacecraft orbit transfer campaigns Implement scripting techniques to perform parametric studies Utilize numerical methods (numerical integration root-solving problems coordinate transformations) Qualifications Required Bachelors degree in a STEM field aerospace mechanical electrical or equivalent Minimum of (2) years of engineering or applicable professional or educational experience is required Experience with flight mechanics trajectory modeling and simulation orbit mechanics optimal control Experience modeling launch vehicle and missile trajectories particularly to non-traditional orbit regimes and modeling the target vehicles dynamics Experience using parameter optimization and the ability to model multiple vehicles in single analysis framework Experience using optimal control software packages like GPOPS-II Strong communication and interpersonal skills ability to work with program office and customer personnel Proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages and environments is desired C C++ Fortran Python MATLAB UNIX This position requires a current and active TSSBBI (SCI) security clearance with a Counterintelligence Polygraph which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
