The primary purpose of this position is to provide appropriate specialized developmental care and instruction for children in the Child Development Center (CDC). In addition performs basic oversight and supervision for a designated classroom for ages 6 months through 5 years.
Designs implements and reviews activity plans. The incumbent uses own initiative to design and implement a variety of activity plans to stimulate and sustain the interest of children and to contribute to their social emotional cognitive and physical development.
Observes and evaluates each childs health and development and reports on and maintains records of observations. Participates in conferences with parents and program assistants.
Prepares and implements specialized programs for children with special needs i.e. children with disciplinary problems learning disabilities or gifted children. Develops plans to deal with unusual or difficult problems/situations as associated with the needs of individual children.
Provides technical guidance and leadership to junior employees assigned to assist with program activities and participates in special projects. Provides on-the-job training and instruction on work methods and techniques concerning such matters as programmed activities food handling health safety and behavior management.

Must complete additional training requirements to include Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation First Aid rescue breathing and food handlers.

One year of specialized experience is required for GS-1702-05 level positions which includes one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes practical knowledge of standard child development/caregiving procedures requiring extended training perform a wide variety of duties in a child development environment carrying out plans and activities to enhance the development of children deal with a range of problems common to this type of environment; knowledge of the health safety sanitation requirements for working with young children; knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the GS-04 grade/level position or equivalent in the federal service. NOTE: Your resume must support your response.
