Boeing Test & Evaluation is looking for a SeniorChief Technical Engineer for Environmental Test at the Space Systems Lab in El Segundo, Ca.

In support of Boeing Test & Evaluations test and business interests, the successful candidate will:

  • Report directly to the Systems Test Operations Senior Manager

  • Provide technical oversight of all test activities for the environmental test labs in El Segundo, Ca. with a particular emphasis in space & launch simulation testing of Boeing space products

  • Possess significant test expertise and experience in test engineering/conduct while performing qualification and acceptance testing on component, subsystem and system level testing using thermal vacuum chambers, separation systems, dynamics shakers, and acoustic chambers

  • Be responsible for direct interface with program technical organizations as requirements are developed and matured in an effort to provide clarity in test phase approach

  • Work directly with Space Systems Lab and Design Build engineering teams to validate designs and test approach for environmental test fixtures and activities

Position Responsibilities:

  • Extensive and specialized knowledge of design of experimental models, mechanisms, prototypes, test rigs and fixtures, test equipment, and load measurement devices. Includes mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatics systems design

  • Designs test hardware, software and systems to achieve test requirements that encompass the full spectrum of testing

  • Analyzes, reviews and validates test data

  • Extensive and specialized knowledge of environmental test equipment/chambers and cycling relative to simulation of flight and/or space vehicle environments (temperature, humidity, vacuum, solar exposure, dynamics)

  • Extensive and specialized knowledge of test facility design and operation disciplines

  • Review critical test procedures to identify potential problems and resolve issues

  • Provide guidance on investigation of complex test anomalies

  • Consult on complex issues related to off-nominal test data

  • Applies knowledge of aerospace components, systems, and related test equipment, facilities, and process methods

  • Analyze engineering designs to define testing requirements; Prepare test plans, schedules and documentation

  • Prepare, analyze, and report test results to verify/validate design and performance to meet government, regulatory, customer and program compliance requirements

  • Prepares and publishes test reports

  • Conducts research in test technologies to improve efficiency and capabilities through the use of a technology roadmap

  • Interfaces with other members of project or program teams, management, and technical staff to define and implement test engineering solutions  

  • Write invention disclosures to protect Boeing Intellectual Property

  • Prepare Research and Development (R & D) proposals and presents to management and customer

  • Mentor others in the test group

  • Prepare, analyze, and report test results to verify/validate design and performance to meet government, regulatory, customer and program compliance requirements

  • Prepares and publishes test reports

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • 20+ years of experience with Test Program design, test procedure development, and test execution

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • A current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program

  • Experience in thermal vacuum test design and conduct

  • Experience is launch environment testing including separation systems and dynamics
