Boeing Defense Space & Security is seeking an Associate, Structural and Payload Design Engineer to join us as part of our Advanced Airborne Sensor (AAS) Design & Production Engineering team located on the St. Louis site, in Berkeley, MO.

The Advanced Airborne Sensor is a multifunction radar used on the P-8 Poseidon. The team is responsible for developing and performing design engineering for sustainment, modification and improvements of military and commercial derivative aircrafts. A successful candidate for this position will possess Adaptability, Collaboration, Communication, Customer Focus, Innovation, Project Management, and Engineering Judgment. In this role you will provide structural design and analysis, support the safety and produceability of the product, perform Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) and coordinate engineering support throughout the lifecycle of the product.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform structural design technical lead tasks for Structures Capability Team

  • Responsible for developing detail and modification design concepts/final design and meeting contractual/producibility requirements for end item deliverables; This includes structural modifications, mechanical components and primary and secondary structural detail/installation design for Development and Production purposes

  • Responsible for the integration of detail design of parts/hardware installation and support to planning/manufacturing efforts and associated tools

  • Analyzes and resolves design problems, able to develop and assist others with resolving design discrepancies and analyze the applicability of new and emerging technologies and advanced techniques

  • Support internal/external design reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), Preliminary/Critical Design Reviews (PDR/CDR) with US and Foreign Air Force customers

  • Provide design expertise and technical knowledge to resolve customer inquiries for post-production fleet sustainment

  • Documents processes, specifications and procedures that support the design and manufacture of structural commodities

  • Develops complex statements of work, metrics, schedules and budgets

  • Performs technical review of supplier capabilities to facilitate source selection

  • Works under minimal direction 

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work at the St. Louis site located in Berkeley, MO.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.  An interim and/or final U.S. secret clearance Post Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 1+ Year of experience working conceptual, preliminary and detailed design including 2D drawings and 3D deliverables

  • 1+ Year of experience working with cross-functional teams

  • 1+ Year of experience communicating with internal and external customers

  • 1+ Year of experience with various computer software programs (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)

  • 1+ Year of experience collecting, organizing, synthesizing, and analyzing data; summarizing findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Active Secret DoD Security Clearance

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

  • 1+ Year of experience creating structural/mechanical designs using Catia & Enovia

  • 1+ Year of experience with Earned Value Management (Scheduling, Budgeting, Cost Analysis)

  • 1+ Year of experience using 3-D Computer Aided Engineering tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle

Typical Education/Experience

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
