Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Space, Intelligence & Weapons Systems (SI & WS) division, is seeking a Mid-Level Systems Engineering Manager (L-Level). This role will oversee the Systems Engineering, Integration & Test (SEIT) activities for the Space Launch System (SLS) Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) in New Orleans, LA.

NASAs Space Launch System (SLS) is pivotal in the United States mission to return to the Moon and send astronauts to Mars. The Exploration Upper Stage (EUS), part of the Block 1B configuration, will provide a unique heavy-lift capability, enabling the transport of astronauts and cargo further and faster than any rocket in history.

As the SLS EUS SEIT Integrated Product Team (IPT) Leader, you will be responsible for leading a diverse team of engineers and mid-level managers across various disciplines, including systems, testing, requirements and verification, analysis, specialty, integration, and materials engineering. Your role will involve the development and implementation of complex engineering systems for the EUS vehicle. A strong grasp of systems engineering principles, coupled with exceptional leadership and communication skills, is essential. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure project success and meet the mission needs of the NASA SLS Block 1B vehicle. Additionally, you will oversee resource acquisition, process development, continuous improvement initiatives, and foster relationships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports. Ideal candidates will have experience with NASA or other government space programs and familiarity with the SLS program and its components.

The role will involve approximately 50% travel to the Boeing facility in Huntsville, AL for senior customer interactions.

Position Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Execution

  • Manage and lead a diverse team in SEIT activities for the EUS program.
  • Develop and implement organizational plans and policies to guide strategies and objectives.
  • Be a Control Account Manager (CAM) utilizing program management tools, including Earned Value Management System (EVMS), to track cost and schedule
  • Ensure adherence to project timelines and foster team development.

Systems Engineering Strategy and Planning

  • Create and implement systems engineering strategies and processes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define project requirements and deliverables.
  • Acquire resources and lead process improvements.

Technical Expertise and Oversight

  • Oversee and approve technical approaches and products.
  • Maintain effective relationships with customers, stakeholders, and team members.

Risk and Opportunity Management

  • Identify and mitigate risks and opportunities using established methodologies.
  • Utilize management tools to support project execution and track performance metrics.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of work experience using systems engineering practices to plan and/or execute requirements verification.
  • 3+ years of experience leading or managing cross-functional or cross-organizational teams within engineering and/or test.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Proven experience in executive-level communication and presentations.
  • Strong ability to cultivate excellent customer and stakeholder relationships.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively engage with all levels of management, customers, and partners.
