Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Fabrication Specialist to join the Space Launch System (SLS) team in Kennedy Space Center, FL.

This position will support Space Launch System (SLS) Core Stage Integration at NASA’s Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB).

The ideal candidate has experience in one or more of the following: mechanical (tube installations), structural drilling and assembly, electrical (wire harness installation), and/or thermal protective systems application.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Performs machine set-up, machining, sheet metal fabrication and extrusion, tube bending and fabrication tasks

  • Performs composite lay-up, fabrication and assembly tasks

  • Assembles precision mechanical and electro-mechanical components

  • Assembles, repairs, modifies and installs various power plants and drive trains

  • Performs soldering on electronic and avionics products

  • Assembles and installs wire harnesses and avionics products

  • Prepares test articles, fixtures and data collection devices to perform various tests

  • Performs organic chemical conversion and paint preparation

  • Applies organic coatings for corrosion protection and appearance requirements

  • Works on complex components and systems using established drawings and requirements

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 1+ years’ experience in aerospace, fabrication, or manufacturing

  • 1+ years’ experience working with powered hand tools or equipment

  • Experience with safety process and/or procedures in a manufacturing or operations environment

  • Willing to work variable shifts, including weekends and overtime

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience working on a NASA Program

  • Experience in a clean room environment

  • Manufacturing experience in human spaceflight, spaceflight, or aircraft hardware

  • Experience in installation and handling of tubes, valves, fittings.

  • Experience in Structural assembly with an emphasis on match drilling aluminum, titanium, and composite materials

  • Experience with tubing and ducting installation

  • Experience and/or coursework in thermal protective systems

  • Experience inspecting, fabricating, installing, routing, terminating, soldering, and repairing electrical wiring harnesses; or any variety of electrical components, and associated equipment
