The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented Senior Technical Officer to join Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) in growing the capabilities of the world leading communications and battle management systems.

Battlespace Communications System (BCS) is a next generation networking product that is the centrepiece for multiple projects and campaigns. The BCS combines both developmental and off the shelf hardware and software to provide world leading communications capability for Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel. It can be rapidly deployed from anywhere, and its modular design provides a flexible, scalable solution that can be customized for various mission needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Working as part of a team of technical officers and engineers to sustain the BCS System Integration Facility (SIF) and support teams in the execution of various work packages.
  • Support deployment of equipment and facilities during the periodic execution of Program wide Mission System Integration and Test Events (MSITEs).
  • Ensure the safe execution of activities across both lab and field environments.
  • Support testing of BCS products with our ADF End User in mind.
  • Contribute to systems development with unique operational and technical insights.
  • Work collaboratively with MSITE and execution Leads on the BCS team to identify objectives for test events.
  • Support the work of technical and engineering staff for correct application of the relevant practice specific to communications infrastructure design, installation and verification.
  • Drive a strong continuous improvement mindset.

Experience/Qualifications

Essential:

  • Previous experience with the Integrated Battlefield Telecommunications Network (I-BTN) system is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of various telecommunications technologies (Radio, SATCOM, Microwave etc).
  • IP networking experience, including troubleshooting and fault rectification.
  • Understanding of Operational Security practices for ADF.
  • Familiar with Defence Communication Equipment Management (CCI and COMSEC).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Applicants must be Australian Citizens and eligible to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of the ADF, including but not limited to the Defence Organisational Structure, Defence Project Management and Defence Equipment Management.
  • Leadership skills and ability to work effectively within a group environment and with people across all organisational levels.
    • Familiarity with systems engineering review and configuration management processes using a PLM tool will be highly regarded.
    • Willing to travel and work in and around Brisbane. Main work locations will be Brisbane CBD and Wacol, with MSITEs conducted at Defence facilities in the SEQ region.
