Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking SeniorConfiguration Design Engineers(Level 4 or Level 5) to support Airplane Configuration & Integration (AC & I) organization in BCA Product Development (PD) based in Everett and/or Renton, WA.

The primary location for this position is Everett, WA but the successful candidate must be willing to work throughout the Puget Sound region.

In this role, you will be part of a team that leads the design, development and integration of innovative, world-class commercial aerospace vehicles. We shape how the world travels. You will collaborate with engineering leaders, customers and partners to lead multi-disciplinary engineering design teams. You will demonstrate a growth mindset, can-do attitude, versatility, flexibility and excellent communication and leadership skills.

We are looking for senior airplane designers with a range of the following skills and abilities:

  • Broad knowledge of airplane-level requirements and interrelated design conditions, and the ability to conceptually size and lay out market-leading commercial air vehicles

  • Leadership in the preliminary design process –bringing multi-disciplinary design teams to optimized trade study decisions

  • A resolute optimist, a visionary of new technologies and methods to continually advance the state of the art in commercial aviation

  • Technical depth in various airplane design disciplines – a critical thinker knowledgeable about fundamentally sound airplane architectures

  • Ability to quantitatively support technical conclusions through analytical data and develop new analytical tool capability when necessary

  • Advocate of the airplane as a balanced market and technical solution

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Level 4 and Level 5 Senior Configuration Design Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Synthesizes conceptual/preliminary aerospace/aeronautical vehicles.

  • Creates vehicle configuration designs from customer requirements.

  • Leads multi-discipline design cycle and performs trade studies to assess design space, structural adequacy, cost effectiveness and regulatory requirements.

  • Supports development of aerospace/aeronautical vehicle requirements (e.g., range, payload, operating and lifecycle cost).

  • Trains and mentors others.

  • Works under minimal direction.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in Engineering.

  • 9+ years of experience in airplane configuration design, systems engineering, or related aerospace engineering roles.

Preferred Qualification (Desired Skills /Experience):

  • 14+ years of related aerospace work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Aeronautical/Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering degree

  • Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft performance in one or more of the following areas: aerodynamics, stability and control, propulsion, structures, payloads or airplane systems

  • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering design/analysis tools, such as CATIA, CAMEO

  • Experience with Multi-disciplinary Design, Analysis and Optimization, applied to aerospace vehicle product development

  • Experience developing interactive user interface computer software for configuration synthesis
