QUALIFICATIONS: In order to qualify you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions Individual Occupational Requirements for Air Traffic Assistance Series 2154 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-08 or equivalent in other pay systems (may have been obtained in the federal service military or public sector). Examples of specialized experience includes civilian or military aircraft operations work such as flight instructor instrument rated pilot flight engineer or air transport pilot; FAA certified dispatcher for an air carrier; Flight information expediter involved in determining flight times of airplanes and transmitting information to flight operations and command centers; Civilian or military air traffic controller; or Flight data processor Knowledge of applicable DOD FAA and ICAO air traffic system laws rules regulations and procedures required for the safe conduct of flights within the NAS and overseas. OR EDUCATION/TRAINING: Training: Successful completion of an FAA or military air traffic control training program. NOTE: You must submit copies of your training certificates OR Certificate: Possession of an FAA Control Tower Operator certificate. NOTE: You must submit copies of your training certificates. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge skills abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of DOD USAF FAA and ICAO air traffic system laws rules regulations and procedures aircraft characteristics and airfield criteria and flight planning information systems. 2. Knowledge of the procedures related to flight handling routing airways and airspace structures and the relationship and coordination required between flight service and other components of the air traffic system. 3. Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with military and civilians of all ranks. 4. Ability to act decisively in emergency situations. 5. Ability to operate various communications devices such as radio desktop computer intercoms etc. and knowledge of procedures for message and report preparation and notification procedures. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.Department:2154 Air Traffic AssistanceSalary Range:$51440 to $66868 per year
