SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The purpose of this position is to act as the Aircraft Mechanic (Crew Chief) with responsibility for managing the operational readiness of one or more aircraft and proficiency training of supported aviation unit personnel. Manages monitors or performs overall maintenance servicing inspections and documentation for one or more highly technical high performance military aircraft. Requests maintenance services exceeding AASF capabilities or time constraints. Oversees ground movement of aircraft. Incumbent launches recovers parks and services aircraft. Ensures Unit Level Logistics-Aviation (ULLS-A) and other aircraft documentation accurately reflects status and airworthiness of assigned aircraft. Clears Red X status symbols on aircraft forms for work performed by others. Plans develops and conducts proficiency training during the technician work week to a multi-faceted workforce comprised of Full Time Support (FTS) and supported unit personnel. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations inspections mobilization and support exercises. Complies with safety fire security environmental and housekeeping regulations. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts accessories and components and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months experience or training installing adjusting aligning troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines transmissions gearboxes hydraulic components and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. Other Requirements - For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles candidates must have a valid state drivers license. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent is required to climb stand stoop bend stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing over 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: The incumbent works inside and outside in inclement weather on icy or slippery ramps aircraft surfaces and work stands and in temperature and humidity extremes and is subject to the danger from exposure to an environment of toxic fumes high pressure air and fluids fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces such as rotor heads landing gear explosive munitions weapons engine noise heat blast intake suction fast moving main gear box devices rotating shafts cartridge actuating devices electrical voltage fire and explosion caused by aircraft fuels solvents lubricants paints and dusts sharp edges confined spaces. MILITARY TECHNICIAN COMPATIBILITY POSITION: Prior to placement in this position the selected applicant must meet the compatibility requirements of a dual status technician in accordance with 32 USC 709. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT and NOTES: 1. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position. 2. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.
