We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Engineer in our Energy division in support of the characterization and assembly of precision target assemblies within the National Ignition Facility (NIF) Target Fabrication Group in Livermore CA for General Atomics.Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Performs under general direction with limited review supporting the NIF Target Fabrication group as an interface to the experiment and laser alignment groups to ensure adequate features are designed into each target and that metrology of these features is completed and documented accurately.
+ Approves new target mechanical drawings and verifies that metrology requirements are documented.
+ Performs dimensional metrology of assemblies to micron tolerances using optical coordinate measuring machines (OCMM).
+ Writes measurement routines for Optical Gaging Products OCMMs.
+ Maintains target measurement specifications and develops the equations necessary for each target summary data package.
+ Obtains reviews and reports measurement results.
+ Develops new and improves existing metrology or production processes.
+ Actively participates in projects related to optimizing and consolidating metrology centric processes between multiple production groups.
+ Performs tests to qualify new processes procedures and equipment.
+ Provides production support and troubleshooting to assembly team.
+ Acts as project manager for repair and improvement projects within a portion of the assembly line.
+ Prepares process reports by collecting and analyzing trend information.
+ Interacts with resident staff and other engineering scientific and technical personnel from a variety of laboratory organizations.
+ Provides direction to less experienced staff.
+ Works in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
+ Trains others to perform detailed metrology procedure.
+ Performs other duties as assigned or required.
+ Typically requires a bachelors degree masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree four or more years of experience with a masters degree or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
+ Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts principles codes and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and expanding knowledge of principles concepts theory and practices in related technical specialties.
+ Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize schedule and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or with assistance at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
+ Must have strong communication computer documentation presentation and interpersonal skills ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact and lead a team of moderately experienced professional employees on single component projects.
+ Able to work extended hours as required.
+ Requires the ability to obtain and maintaining a DOE security clearance.
