General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) is a supplier of advanced electromagnetic systems related power equipment and other high technology products for a variety of government and commercial applications. These include products such as the design and fabrication of linear motors superconducting and conventional rotating motors power inverters high-energy capacitors radiation monitoring systems high-voltage direct current power distribution systems and numerous other products.
We have an exciting opportunity in our Systems Engineering Integration and Test Department for a Radio Frequency (RF) engineer. This position is within our Systems Engineering and Integration group and supports systems engineering and performs preliminary and detailed designs integration activities and testing of RF subsystems and components for our Satellite and Weapon System programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBITIES :
+ Provide RF design and analysis technical expertise in support of multiple space and weapon system programs and Internal Research and Development (IRAD) projects.
+ Conduct RF performance analyses including latency and throughput budgets antenna patterns radar cross-sections and link margins.
+ Support systems engineering to define requirements perform functional decomposition develop system architecture designs manage risks and verify requirements for RF subsystems and components.
+ Assess proposed requirements changes and how they affect RF subsystem and component designs including impacts to performance risk cost verification/testing methodology and delivery schedule.
+ Interface with customers and stakeholders to obtain buy-in on RF requirements and designs.
+ Support design development and testing of ad hoc networks for vehicle-to-vehicle communications.
+ Support design and analysis of space rated electronics and communications subsystems.
+ Support design and testing of electronics for Electromagnetic Interference and Compatibility (EMI/EMC).
+ Support programming and testing of software defined radios for various space-based and air vehicle applications.
+ Support design integration and testing of telemetry systems and telemetry ground stations.
+ Support RF seeker design analysis and testing.
+ Support general avionics/electronics design efforts as needed.
+ Develop subcontractor statements of work and coordinate with subcontract administrators.
+ Develop purchase requests and coordinate purchase orders with material managers and buyers.
+ Collaborate daily with systems engineering electronics software mechanical logistics test quality assurance and procurement personnel within GA and government customer agencies.
+ Provide real-time thorough communication with program management and corporate leadership.
+ Provide design documentation write technical reports and make technical presentations as required.
+ Support proposal development activities.
+ Perform other duties as required.

+ Typically requires a bachelors degree masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelors degree ten or more years of experience with a masters degree or seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
+ Must have a thorough understanding of RF engineering concepts principles codes and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and expanding knowledge of principles concepts theory and practices in related technical specialties.
+ Working knowledge of RF simulation and modeling tools schematic capture tools and printed circuit board layout tools.
+ Experience with high-speed FPGA design (e.g. VHDL or Verilog) is desired.
+ Experience with design and implementation of digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms for embedded and software defined radios (SDR) is desired.
+ Experience in analog digital mixed-signal and RF circuit design and analysis.
+ Experience with various lab test hardware including oscilloscopes spectrum analyzers signal generators and network analyzers.
+ Experience designing and testing RF hardware in the VHF through Ka bands.
+ Experience with Radar Cross-Section analysis tools such as XPATCH is highly desired.
+ Experience with C or other programming languages.
+ Experience with low probability of detection/low probability of intercept waveforms and weapon system data links is highly desirable.
+ Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize schedule and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or with assistance at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
+ Must have strong communication computer documentation presentation and interpersonal skills ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact and lead a team of moderately experienced professional employees on single component projects.
+ Able to work extended hours as required.
+ DoD Secret or higher clearance is required.
+ Travel Expectations: 10-20%
