Summary Under minimal supervision this position is responsible for overseeing the planning design reconfiguration and alteration of electrical systems for the General Atomics Desert and Spanish Fork facilities. Ensures assigned facilities activities achieve desired results. Represents the department as the primary contact on contracts or projects. Interacts with senior internal and external personnel and coordinates with various contractors as well as internal organizations. Responds to and resolves multiple simultaneous inquiries typically of a non-routine or complex nature regarding a variety of facility related matters some of which require immediate attention. Plans and develops project timetables and coordinates facility activities to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget. Maintains analyzes updates and develops various electronic and hard copy records and makes brief presentations as required. Responsibilities involve the exercise of independent judgment and discretion about matters of significance.
Essential Functions
1. Reviews develops and presents data concerning facility modifications including requested modifications company policies regulatory requirements and required completion dates.
2. Assists with architectural and engineering cost estimates functional studies construction plans and specifications. Develops and presents timetables and schedules for projects.
3. Coordinates with architecture and/or engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detailed drawings. Prepares bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities acquisitions.
4. Reviews estimated design costs including equipment installation labor materials preparations and other related costs.
5. Coordinates or directs the construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established drawings specifications and schedules.
6. Responsible for oversight of outside contractors.
7. Ensures projects are completed on schedule and within budget while maintaining government regulations and health and safety requirements.
8. Analyzes data and situations. Responds to and resolves issues of a complex nature.
9. Ensures that all appropriate documentation are updated reported and filed.
10. Uses ladders and lifts both above ground and on rooftops of buildings to develop statements of work and conduct building inspections.
11. May function in an advisory or leadership role and provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff.
Highly Desirable
1. Demonstrating a complete understanding of electrical construction planning theories concepts and principles as well as National Electric Code (NEC) and commercial building codes involved with construction and construction planning.
2. Being familiar with Industry Construction Standards and best practices.
3. Possessing an active B or C10 license with ability to pull permits and work with city county and other Authorities Having Jurisdiction
4. Excellent computer skills with working knowledge of AutoCAD. Typically requires a bachelors degree masters degree or PhD in electrical engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience in construction planning as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelors degree or two or more years of experience with a masters degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have a complete understanding of electrical construction planning theories concepts principles and codes; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and expanding knowledge of principles concepts theory and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize schedule and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or with assistance at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Must have excellent communication computer documentation presentation and interpersonal skills ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one engineering area; and lead a team of less experienced professional employees on semi-routine tasks.
  • Able to work extended hours as required.
  • A Professional Engineering License is desirable.
