We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Airframe and Structures Project Engineer to support Advanced Aircraft Engineering projects at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems.
This engineering position coordinates the development composite aircraft structures as an Airframe and Structures Project Engineer in the Advanced Aircraft Platform Engineering department. Position focuses on organizing and coordinating all phases of the projects from requirements definition to conceptualization through flight test including project planning technical interchanges resource allocations cost estimates requirements definition requirements evaluation technical input/interface verification/validation test coordination manufacturing coordination vendor coordination to ensure objectives are attained. Establishes internal milestones and monitors adherence to program master plans and schedules and/or costs.
Participate with engineering to establish/validate design concepts criteria and engineering efforts for product research development testing and integration. Interact with internal and external engineering and project/program staff at various levels concerning resolution of technical/requirements issues.
You will possess exceptional judgment and strong communication leadership presentation and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments all levels of management professional and support staff.
+ Provides documentation and makes technical presentations as required.
+ Will represent the Advanced Aircraft Engineering department in communicating/resolving technical issues associated with specific projects.
+ Responsible for observing all laws regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
+ Typically requires a bachelors degree masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree seven or more years of experience with a masters degree or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
+ Demonstrates an extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles concepts theory and practice with the ability to organize plan schedule conduct and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
+ Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
+ Strong communication presentation and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other departments and/or professionals and capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact as well as providing leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
+ Customer focused formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.
+ Demonstrated Project Leadership as an IPT lead or Sub-Project Lead.
+ Knowledge and/or application of specifications used in the certification of aircraft (MIL-HNBK-516C JSSG FAR25 FAR23 STANAG NAVAIR)
+ Experience with Design stress analysis tooling design or manufacturing of primary composite structures or navy airframes
+ Experience with Siemens NX Pro/Engineer (Creo) or other parametric CAD tool (CATIA V5 Solidworks)
+ Experience with Windchill or other PDM Systems (Enovia Smarteam Teamcenter)
+ Experience with Microsoft Project and Excel.
+ Other duties as assigned or required.
+ Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
+ Able to work extended hours as required.
+ A Professional Engineering License original work(s) published in professional engineering journals and invited to present one or more original works to an engineering symposium are desirable.
