General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineering Manager who will lead the Electrical Engineering (EE) Department in the Lasers and Advanced Sensors (LAS) Engineering directorate located in Rancho Bernardo CA. The technical focus is on hardware design for digital and power electronics. This position reports to the LAS Executive Director of Engineering and is responsible for the planning managing and technical performance of electrical engineering activities and products.Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Responsible for applying innovative approaches to resolving unusual or complex engineering problems.
+ Manage responsible engineers for all aspects of projects including preparing and participating in design reviews maintaining schedules developing assembly and testing plans.
+ Direct all phases of assigned engineering project(s) from inception through completion.
+ Responsibilities will require the integration of multiple disciplines and departments.
+ Collaborate with technical staff program managers and/or Division/Group executive management to develop and implement current annual and long-term technical schedule quality business and financial objectives
+ Assignments will normally be outlined in terms of overall objectives and reviewed largely at completion.
+ Manage and initiate the planning of engineering projects and develop innovative designs or modifications to meet project goals.
+ Manage document findings communicate results to the engineering staff make technical presentations and may represent the organization as the prime technical contact.
+ Provide direction to design or technical staff and will lead a team of professional staff.
+ Ensure proper engineering discipline is implemented for all analysis and design and GA-EMS engineering processes are followed.
+ Provide oversight and lead the derivation of design requirements based on upper level specifications analysis of alternative designs subassembly and module design verification testing peer review of hardware designs development and release of associated higher level test procedures and assembly aids for production failure analysis root cause identification and corrective action.
+ Manage a team responsible for analog and digital designs and should be able to do system level design and analysis which includes power electronics high voltage electronics control systems embedded systems and sensor systems. Contribute to the preparation of proposals business plans proposal work statements and specifications operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract(s).
+ Manage/oversee cross-functional project teams developing laser and/or advanced sensor systems including integration into objective platforms.
+ Performs other duties as assigned or required.

+ Typically requires a Bachelors Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as thirteen or more years of progressively complex engineering experience with at least seven of those years having management responsibilities. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance is required.
+ Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles concepts theory and practice as well as project and/or program leadership including organizing planning scheduling and coordinating workloads to meet established project deadlines or milestones.
+ Must possess demonstrated management experience building and developing an Electrical Engineering Team/Department including hiring retention training and mentoring and administrative management in support of a diverse set of technology and project pursuits.
+ Demonstrated technical leadership experience leading a cross-functional project team of technical staff in the development component subsystem and systems designs associated with RF optical and RF sensors and laser and laser systems is required
+ Demonstrated ability to manage and contribute to the development of new concepts and principles; resolve unusually complex technical problems; serve as spokesperson on projects and/or programs and be a technical expert in one or more areas of engineering is required.
+ Strong communication presentation and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective leadership interface with other departments all levels of management professional and support staff customers potential customers and government representatives.
+ Must be customer focused formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.
+ Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment.
+ Able to work extended hours as required.
+ PADS PSpice simulation PCB Fabrication high power battery systems DC to DC converters power conditioning and control systems experience is desirable.
+ High power experience with both power supplies and battery systems and previous experience with Lithium Ion batteries and high-speed charging techniques is desired.
+ Previous experience integrating electrical sensor and/or laser systems into platforms (air sea or land) is required.
+ Experience developing design solutions that meet MIL standards including electrical EMI/EMC and environmental requirements is required.
+ Experience and strong working knowledge of analog and digital control systems and interfacing with multiple disciplines to design build integrate and test new and existing products is desired.
+ Experience with high energy lasers high peak power energy systems or advanced optical and RF sensing systems is desired.
+ Desired Skills: Experience with Excel spreadsheet LabVIEW FPGA C/C++ Signal Integrity tools digital and analog design tools or other analysis tools.
+ A Professional Engineering License original work(s) published in professional engineering journals invited to present one or more original works to a national or international engineering symposium and invited to Chair engineering review panels as a technical expert are desirable.
