As a SQL Server Database Engineer on this team you will help us build optimize maintain and harden the database layers in our existing software tools and experiences to help delight our commercial aviation customers in a Software-as-a-Service environment. The database layers in our aviation software both consume data from a wide range of sources while simultaneously feeding multiple applications that support the worldwide operations of our aviation software solutions. This role will operate across all the individual aviation engineering teams providing both architectural input and operational support for our various Microsoft SQL Server databases. You will have the opportunity to monitor and optimize multiple environments that operate on a worldwide basis iteratively enhancing performance while working with individual teams to add new features and capabilities. If youre someone who has mastered the intricacies of Microsoft SQL Server including its companion tools such as SSIS and SSRS while also being comfortable administering and building databases with other platforms such as NoSQL databases and distributed caches such as Redis come join our team! You will be part of an engineering organization that will entrust you to design develop and maintain various databases with a high degree of autonomy while receiving guidance and feedback to help you grow. You will be expected to collaboratively experiment prototype take risks document your work and teach others while helping to build new applications web services and tools used by our existing Fusion flight tracking and Pilotbrief flight deck applications. You will work closely with aviation experts meteorologists UX designers and offering managers to help solve super interesting and challenging problems. Youll be part of the on-call support rotation as a Tier 4 SME engaging with our airline customers supporting our aviation application operations with your colleagues. WMWTWC Required Technical and Professional Expertise Extensive knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server administration including high availability options backup and restore and monitoring and optimization of SQL Server instances. 5+ years experience writing performant T-SQL stored procedures. You automated routine database maintenance tasks using SQL Server maintenance plans. SQL Server performance tuning using the native tools built into Windows (PerfMon to optimize performance). You know what a Query Plan is and how to monitor and optimize them. 5+ years experience deploying and supporting virtual database servers on cloud based infrastructure (AWS Azure IBM Cloud) on a large scale supporting at least 2000 simultaneous users. Experience with writing SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) tasks to transform data and to write that data to a table. You know how to use SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) to create ad-hoc reports for users on demand. Experience with configuring monitoring and maintaining SQL Server replication. Preferred Tech and Prof Experience You have experience tuning Microsoft Windows servers to maximize Microsoft SQL Server performance. Have experience developing PowerShell scripts to automate routine tasks. Have you managed SQL Server in a Windows Cluster environment . . . good since we want you!. If you like to treat your database servers as cattle and not as pets by deploying them via containers. And double bonus points if you have experience working with databases for GIS type applications.
