Employee Category Professional staff Department College of Professional Studies-Office EClass Code Full Time Professional Staff Position SummaryThe Lockheed Martin Endowed Director of the Advanced Manufacturing Sciences ( AMS ) Institute will report to the Dean of the College of Health and Applied Sciences and is responsible for managing all AMS Institute activities. This includes working as the primary liaison and direct point of contact for all industry partners. In addition the Director will be responsible for developing and maintaining the AMS academic program and working collaboratively with department leaders associated with the program.

Duties/ResponsibilitiesThe duties and responsibilities for this position are outlined below:
Manage the activities of all laboratories associated with the AMSI in order to optimize workforce preparation in the areas of additive and subtractive manufacturing.
Provide advising services for all Advanced Manufacturing Sciences ( AMS ) B.S. Degree students. Lead and drive efforts with all collaborating departments leadership to: facilitate programming share student activities and revise AMS curriculum in order to align with industry needs. Work collaboratively to implement and refine the AMS degree program with external partners. Work collaboratively with other departments inside and outside of the college in order to promote the AMS department and students. Coordinate teaching faculty with participating departments for AMS coordinate AMS major internship placements and evaluation and coordinate and manage AMS degree program assessment. Have teaching experience and be prepared to teach classes within this discipline and advise those students as needed.
Develop plan and execute comprehensive strategies to expand the AMSI community presence by developing and nurturing relationships with a wide and diverse set of industry partners. This includes arranging seminars guest speakers and workshops. In addition write grants and collaborate with the University Advancement team to solicit grants and private donations for the Institute. Develop fee-for-service programs in prototype development and other manufacturing research areas.
In collaboration with University leadership including the College Deans establish the Institute mission vision and goals that support the University mission. Provide prudent financial management of the Institute and ensure fiscal stewardship. Provide assurance that the Institute operates in accordance with all relevant federal and state laws and university regulations and policies. Develop strategic planning reports for the Institute and the College. Develop a relevant advisory board and coordinate appropriate consultations and meetings with said advisory board on a regular basis.
Collaborate with the tenants on the 4th floor of the Aerospace and Engineering Sciences ( AES ) building and work with tenant/partners where appropriate with respect to joint projects involving the AMSI laboratories and equipment. In particular work with CAMA membership companies as well as MSU Denver faculty to create and develop a center of excellence in the area of Industry 4.0. This includes collaboration with all academic programs in this building around shared space and equipment.
Prepare an Annual Report for the University President Provost College Deans and if relevant the Board of Trustees. Prepare the self-study for the Institutes periodic review and all assessment reports. Participate in individual personnel evaluation and evaluate AMS Institute staff in accordance with campus policies and procedures. Regularly conduct program evaluation to determine program effectiveness including program review for the institute and programs housed within it.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required QualificationsBachelors Degree in Aerospace Studies Business Engineering Computer Science or related fields and tested experience in a related field of industry
Extensive and proven experience working with all levels of staff and leadership including board members and community leaders in the field of manufacturing and/or other related fields
Evidence of successful supervision and management of professional staff
Preferred QualificationsMasters Degree in Aerospace Studies Business Engineering Computer Science or related field of industry
Ph.D. in Aerospace Studies Business Engineering Computer Science or related field of industry
Demonstrated experience working in higher education that includes teaching experience and advising of students
Demonstrated experience working with diverse urban populations and recruiting and mentoring diverse student populations
Demonstrated experience in manufacturing industry with a variety of industry partners
Demonstrated experience in collaborative working relationships that result in successful grants initiatives and industry projects
Proven skills in fundraising activities that involve working collaboratively with a fundraising team
Demonstrated competence in program evaluation and curriculum development to determine program effectiveness
Demonstrated experience in writing and managing a budget
Competence in a strategic planning process to determine department and program direction
