The Vehicle Analysis Branch of Langley Research Center is seeking a highly qualified aerospace engineer to specialize in uncertainty quantification as applied to vehicle analysis and design. You will serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team responsible for the design and evaluation of advanced systems architectures concepts and technologies for launch vehicles spacecraft and high speed aircraft.
Responsibilities Performs uncertainty quantification (UQ) studies of launch vehicles spacecraft and high speed aircraft employing analysis of variance probabilistic Bayesian and systems analysis methodologies. Provides subject matter expertise concerning UQ reliability and probabilistic tools and methods development including modifications of the tools and the analysis of results in support of multi-disciplinary computational and experimental studies. Develops refinements of overall systems analysis methodologies applied in performing data analysis. Data may originate from varying sources such as high fidelity modeling engineering approximations ground testing and flight experiments. Documents and reports UQ study results to management and study lead. Supports systems analysis studies in defining mission/vehicle requirements flight performance envelopes configuration design flight control systems requirements and flight phase/systems compatibility assessments. Advises leads on the state of the UQ discipline desired capabilities current achievements and trends in theoretical approaches having direct bearing on future technical and scientific requirements. Develops and maintains technical expertise of unique or leading edge powered and atmospheric flight mission analysis capabilities to meet specific mission requirements. Conducts computational and experimental studies at the system level that establish the adequacy of the design to meet operational requirements. Serves as a technical expert trouble-shooter or consulting engineer by providing technical advice and guidance in developing new procedures equipment systems tools or in performing the work. Duties described above are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
