Research Scientist - Atmospheric ScienceThe National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) has an immediate opening for a Research Scientist in Atmospheric Science to work with infrared hyperspectral instrument systems and datasets and related research tasks. The tasks specifically emphasize the atmospheric and surface geophysical parameter retrievals from National Airborne Sounder Testbed-Interferometer (NAST-I) measurements as well as satellite hyperspectral sensors such as the CrIS and IASI. The primary focus of this work is to analyze data from NASAs airborne field missions such as the FIREX-AQ to characterize the fire-induced chemical species in the atmosphere. The NAST-I FIREX-AQ dataset offers a unique opportunity to improve understanding and the utility of high spectral resolution infrared measurements for atmospheric trace species characterization and satellite product validation / improvement. The overall objective is to investigate the impact of fires on air quality and climate. The successful candidate will work as part of a collaborative team on site at NASAs Langley Research Center and will be expected to publish results of the work both through internal technical publications and in professional conferences and journals.Requirements: Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant field of atmospheric science.
