We Are Seeking An EXPERIENCED Flight Test EngineerAs a Flight Test Engineer you solve problems by gathering information and evaluating options for department and company success. You are responsible for defining planning organizing executing and reporting complex flight test programs and events for unmanned systems including both high-altitude balloons and small Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Proficiency in structure critical thinking and planning is essential to being successful at NSC. As a dynamic leader you focus on testing aeronautical systems and associated avionics and certification of flight systems. Your success is demonstrated through both leading an engineering team and actively leading the execution of specific flight test engineering activities through both personal support of test events and supervising the engineering support team. What You Will Do For UAS and High-Altitude Balloon Operations Generate system level flight test plans and procedures Qualify and validate system levels for hardware and software Coordinate technical issues with customers Support integration of test articles with flight test resources Derive and track flight requirements and develop test plans Report flight test activities for customers Assure proper documentation of technical data Lead internal design activities and technical decisions Support risk hazard assessments Develop and maintain project budgets schedules time and expenses Establish practices and procedures for engineering department Direct support for Production and Flight Operations Position requires 10-20% travel What You Need To Be Successful Bachelor degree in aerospace or aeronautical engineering 7-10+ years of flight testing unmanned systems and project lead or project manager experience 5 years minimum operational or developmental flight test experience with unmanned systems Systems engineering expertise in an unmanned systems flight test program Understanding of C3 (command control and communications) telemetry and data acquisition systems Experience with autopilot systems (theory integration and operation) Understanding of FAA regulations Certificate of Authorization (COA) or Waiver process Understanding of aircraft procedures Knowledge with design of aeronautical systems components and materials Demonstrated expertise in aeronautics physics mathematics and computer science skills Technical computing such as MatLab Effective communication skills both verbal and written (reports procedures proposals etc.) Please submit a cover letter explaining how your experience is relevant to the responsibilities of the Flight Test Engineer role and your experience with the requirements.
