Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.What Your Job Will Be LikeOur organization Navigation Guidance and Control (NG&C) II Department 05446 is currently seeking to hire a motivated and experienced R&D Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineer. If you have a passion for technology solutions and would like to support both Offensive and Defensive Military Systems development projects within the Integrated Military Systems Program at Sandia this may be the job for you!On any given day you may be called on to: Architect model simulate and analyze military missions involving operation of various systems actual and conceptual: spacecraft missiles radars optical sensors ground assets and logistics systems Define performance metrics and design and execute experiments to identify and determine mission design drivers against those metrics. This will be followed with mission and/or weapon design optimization such to maximize desired effect of performance metrics Research Navigation Guidance and Control algorithms and technologies Development of real-time embedded software Development and analysis of technology options Support local and remote testingQualifications We Require You have an advanced (Ph.D. or Masters) degree in one of the following areas: Aerospace Engineering Mechanical Engineering Mechatronic Engineering Electrical Engineering or directly related discipline; plus (1) year of directly related experience You possess experience with system modeling of dynamical systems for aerospace vehicles (especially rocket missile or spacecraft) You possess experience with real-time algorithm and filter development You background includes experience with software development (c/c++ python java etc.) Your background includes experience with Mathworks Matlab and Simulink You have experience with or interest in Navigation Technologies (GPS IMU filtering etc.) Guidance Technologies (3 DoF optimization trajectory analysis) Control Technologies (Thrust Vector Control Attitude Control System Actuators Aerodynamic Control Surface etc.) 6 DoF Simulations (Software-in-the-Loop Simulations Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulations) or Software Development for GN&C subsystems Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q level security clearanceQualifications We DesireIdeally your background will include one or more of the following: You have a Ph.D. in one of the following areas: Aerospace Engineering Mechanical Engineering Mechatronic Engineering Electrical Engineering or directly related discipline You have a background in computer science computer engineering or software development Knowledge of rocket missile and spacecraft systems A very strong background/knowledge of aerodynamics General background in the application of Systems Engineering concepts. Familiarity with version control tools A very strong background in Aerospace Dynamical systems theory and related Mod/Sim applications experience Modeling and simulation of complex dynamical systems Experience developing real-time Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulations Experience with MathWorks Simulink Real-Time and Speedgoat Systems Digital computer methods for numerical solutions of partial differential equations Applications experience with industry standard Government Off the Shelf (GOTS) and commercial software commodities such as TAOS GMAT AFSIM ModelCenter SIMDIS Zuken E3 SolidWorks and Satellite Tool Kit Excellent verbal written and presentation skills Demonstrated ability to team well with others Active US DOE Q or DoD S/TS level security clearanceAbout Our TeamThe Navigation Guidance and Control (NGC) II Department 05446 provides technology solutions and support to both Offensive and Defensive Military Systems development projects within the Integrated Military Systems Program at Sandia. Hardware and software technologies are developed integrated and tested to provide flight control solutions for missiles and hypersonic reentry platforms. Typically these systems support the Missile Defense Agency Army Navy and other Department of Defense Agencies. Our programs cover a broad spectrum of applications; from advanced aerodynamically controlled vehicles dropped from aircraft to maneuvering hypersonic warheads to ballistic missile systems. All of the activities require the extensive use of real time embedded computers and custom real-time software for the realization of affiliated fully-integrated flight control system solutions. The NGC group is significantly involved in modeling and simulation activities in support of these same application areas as well as activities for the Sandia Space Mission Program.
