Description, duties, responsibilities
The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) a University Affiliated Research Center has been developing innovative technologies and solutions for cutting-edge DoD and intelligence programs for almost six decades. Our expertise is in space and airborne IR VIS UV and RF sensors small satellite technologies test and calibration cybersecurity data visualization and assurance and ground stations. SDL is seeking experienced and organized spacecraft systems engineers for small satellite programs. The spacecraft systems engineers are responsible for the architecture technical trades risk tracking requirements tracking and the technical progress and execution of the satellite program. They must have the ability to understand the customers vision and work with the team to translate it into a technical solution work with program management to ensure technical requirements and performance are achieved support interactions with customers and provide technical support to related proposal efforts. Required Qualifications: B.S. degree in a related technical field (e.g. aerospace engineering mechanical engineering or electrical engineering with coursework in space engineering) 10+ years of systems engineering experience Familiarity with spacecraft requirements and subsystems design Familiarity with orbital mechanics Excellent communication skills Ability to present clearly and succinctly to customers Must be a US citizen and have or be able to obtain a DoD security clearance Must be able to accommodate intermittent travel Preferred Qualifications: 15+ years of relevant spacecraft systems engineering experience and advanced degree(s) in a related field Ability to lead technical teams in developing complex space systems In-depth familiarity with small satellites ( Experience planning mission operations and developing flight procedures Ability to conduct mission architecture and subsystem trade-studies including make/buy decisions Ability to define and derive requirements from mission objectives down to subsystem and component requirements Experience with orbital analysis tool suites Experience with space hardware development and testing Experience in developing and executing verification and validation procedures Understanding of the space environment Understanding of risks and risk mitigations for spaceflight systems Experience with proposal development SDL Benefits: At SDL we take pride in and highly value our employees.
