If this sounds like the choice you want to make then choose MITREand make a difference with us.MITREs Operations Optimization department seeks a former Certified Professional Controller / Air Traffic Control Specialist with extensive knowledge of large Terminal Radar Approach Control operations to solve critical problems and evolve the National Airspace System (NAS). Prior experience with airspace and Instrument Flight Procedure (IFP) design projects is strongly preferred. As a member of this department you will partner with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other aviation stakeholders to modernize the NAS advance the safety and efficiency of air travel and enable new uses of this national resource. Working individually and as a team member you will conduct exploratory data analyses and develop concepts in support of informing and advancing FAA and other Governmental sponsoring organization initiatives that improve the access security efficiency and safety of National Airspace System operations.Key responsibilities include:Support airspace and IFP design and implementation efforts by providing subject matter expertise technical advice and data-driven solutions. Utilize existing airspace and procedure design / analysis tools to develop robust airspace and IFP designs for major airports / terminal airspace to enhance the efficiency capacity and safety of the NAS.Evaluate the impact and feasibility of proposed new concepts for airspace IFPs separation standards automation capabilities or operating practices. Document and present the results of complex airspace design and analysis efforts at both the technical and executive level to clearly convey recommendations and gain buy-in and understanding. Provide technical advice regarding airspace and procedure design and the processes for developing deploying and implementing NextGen capabilities. Build trusted partnerships with the FAA sponsor airlines labor representatives and other aviation stakeholders (military general aviation business aviation user groups etc.) to develop collaborative solutions.Basic Qualifications:BS in engineering or a related field8+ years of relevant experienceRequiredQualifications:Significant experience as a CPC in a major TRACON Critical thinking including the ability to understand a problem develop alternative solutions evaluate them in a systematic manner and make an unbiased and defensible recommendation Ability to work collaboratively with other aviation stakeholders and experience working with diverse teams with different backgrounds experience levels and perspectives Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to convey complex airspace concepts in a clear and organized manner.Preferred Qualifications:Strong understanding of IFP design criteria and practices and knowledge of current airspace and procedures-related processes policies orders issues and activities Prior experience on airspace and IFP design and implementation projects Experience as a Traffic Management Coordinator --including operational use of TBFM Technical capabilities with airspace and procedure design and analysis tools such as TARGETS SDAT or PDARS to help sponsors and stakeholders make data-driven decisions Excellent writing briefing and communication skills including experience communicating with both technical and executive audiences.
