The Revolutionary Aerodynamics Innovation and Research (volAIR) group at the University of Tennessee is seeking a qualified and highly motivated individual with experience in aerodynamics fluid dynamics and/or computational methods for a one-year position. The selected candidate will be expected to participate in high-profile highly collaborative multidisciplinary projects for both commercial fixed-wing aircraft and hypersonic vehicles. Efforts will include computational fluid dynamics analyses using NASA and DoD tools as well as methods developments for new analysis capabilities.The primary responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: Conduct independent and collaborative research and capability development in support of funded projects Assist in the technical management of the research activities including reporting and other appropriate dissemination of the research products Develop proposals for research funding equipment acquisition and other purposesMentor graduate students working on these and similar projectsObtaining Ph.D. in aerospace engineering computer science mathematics or a related discipline by May 2019 is required along with experience with the following: Structured and unstructured computational fluid dynamics methods and analysis software Operating in a UNIX or Linux high-performance computing environment Programming skills in either C/C or Fortran Office productivity software such as Microsoft OfficeExperience with the following is a plus: Python language Parallel programming in an MPI or OpenMPI environment LaTeX document preparationExcellent interpersonal skills oral and written communication skills and organizational skills are required. A strong work ethic and the ability to work independently are necessary as is the ability to work in a dynamic team environment.U.S. Citizenship is required.
