Avionics Software Systems Architect

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Software Systems Architect to join our team developing state-of-the-art avionics test and certification products. The candidate will hold a highly visible position in a very dynamic multi-tasking work environment. The position is a technical role where you will be responsible for the SW architecture across multiple avionics test and certification products driving convergence when possible. This role requires both technical knowledge is critical avionics technologies and leadership skills to be successful across the different teams locations and products. The successful candidate must have proven experience and ability to utilize personal leadership communications and team development skills to help align the organization around state-of-the-art architectures tools and processes while maintaining our innovation leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Interact with diverse areas (e.g. marketing operations other divisions) to achieve business unit goals.
  • Provide experience and participate in full lifecycle of development for software systems.
  • Act as a change agent collaborate with others to create SW architecture roadmaps and improve SW development processes.
  • In conjunction with Marketing and Engineering teams develop and maintain a product / technology roadmap aligned with industry architecture trends and the strategic direction of the business. Identify any technology or skill set gaps that will impede roadmap attainment and develop and execute plans for resolution.
  • Support our "One-Team" initiative to converge on tools/processes across the different R&D locations.
  • Mentor the other SW leads to better enable cross-site development capabilities.
  • Exercise Business Acumen to make smart business and product trade-off decisions across the entire business.
  • Work cross-functionally to perform risk assessments to encourage teams to take informed risks with measured consequences.
  • Manage complexity and ambiguity to lead teams in execution while details are being finalized over time.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Education and general experience:
    • BSCS / BSCE or equivalent experience (required) advanced engineering degree (preferred)
    • Eight plus years of systems architecture and/or engineering leadership experience and 10 years of hands-on software development experience.
    • Expert knowledge of Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics (RTCA)/ International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards - specifically RTCA DO-181 DO-260 and ICAO Annex 10
    • Expert knowledge of Avionics -Transponders Interrogators Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) Ground Initiated Comm B (GICB) Universal Access Transceiver (UAT) Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) Instrument Landing System (ILS) VHF Omnidirectional Range (VOR) Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) Tactical Air Navigation System (TACAN) and Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELT).
  • Programming language and networking experience:
    • Relevant recent experience with UI technologies
    • Proficient with C and C++ programming languages
    • Various Network Communication Protocol experience
    • TCP / IP networking (development and debugging)
  • Software development environment and methodology experience:
    • Solid understanding of software development life cycle models as well as expert knowledge of both Agile and traditional project management principles and practices and the ability to blend them together in the right proportions to fit a project and business environment
    • Familiarity with standard SW development tools (version control debuggers issue databases etc.)
  • Organization development and communication:
    • Experience leading in-house and outsourced development teams
    • Strong interpersonal skills including mentoring coaching collaborating and team building
    • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and master new technologies and techniques.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and abilities
    • Excellent oral and written communications skills and experience interacting with PLM BU GM and executive level
    • Ability to define and create project management plans and documents to present project status to senior management. Must be results oriented to achieve project goals by doing whatever is necessary to move the team forward.
    • Ability to work across sites time zones and cultures to deliver on project goals in addition to overall company initiatives.
