Job Goal:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have ONE of the following:

  • Valid and current state or national industry license or certification (i.e. current FAA Airframe and Powerplant License), or

  • 24 semester hours of related post-secondary coursework verified on an official transcript (see CDE website:Secondary CTE Transportation)

AND

Applicants must have ONE of the following:

  • 2,000-4,000 hours of verified occupational experience, or

  • Three (3) years full-time verified, licensed teaching experience in the content area

AND

Applicants must be able to obtain a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Authorization in Secondary CTE Transportation prior to their first day of work.

AND

Applicants must have or be able to obtain FAA airframe and powerplant mechanics

certification.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge and skills in techniques of aircraft maintenance technology (general, airframe, and powerplant) and in the development of an aircraft maintenance technology curriculum

  • Knowledge of industry-related software as they relate to the aviation industry and the teaching profession

  • Ability to align the aircraft maintenance curriculum and instruction to industry certification/licensure exams

  • Ability and background knowledge necessary to obtain the required materials, tools, and equipment needed for a Part 147 school

  • Ability and background knowledge needed to assemble Part 147 manual for FAA approval

  • Knowledge of current safety and compliance practices and ethical concerns related to the profession

  • Able to create industry partnerships within the aviation industry

  • Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment

  • Ability to participate actively in professional development

Performance Responsibilities:

Instructional Planning and Delivery:

  • Teach Part 147 aircraft maintenance technology program that will include:

    • all FAA requirements of Part 147 A&P program, including meeting the 1150 hours required for General and Airframe certification;

    • alignment of aircraft maintenance technology curriculum and instruction to industry certification exams

    • a program of practical and technical instruction on theory, practices, methods, processes, and terminology of the aircraft maintenance industry;

    • demonstration of skills required in the aircraft maintenance industry;

    • safety precautions, use, and maintenance of tools and equipment, and regulations of the aircraft maintenance industry;

    • safety examinations prior to allowing students to work with equipment;

    • organization of student records for FAA compliance

  • Plan and supervise the work of students in the classroom and in field experiences

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the requirements of the instructional program

  • Collaborate with other staff to ensure student learning and success

  • Make changes in instruction as needed to meet students needs

  • Collaborate with other Warren Tech programs, including but not limited to Aviation Technology

  • Work with the Warren Tech special education teachers to modify the curricula as needed for students who need extra instructional support

  • Plan with English as Second Language (ESL) teachers to support students when English is their second language

  • Co-teach post-secondary workforce readiness with counselors (resume workshops, transferable skills, mock interviews, etc.)

  • Teach standards and competencies required for college credit and certifications

  • Manage Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) and develop leadership opportunities for students

  • Complete all required compliance documentation for your CTE program

Monitoring Student Progress and Potential:

  • Develop and administer ongoing short-term and long-term assessments of student learning and achievement

  • Prepare students for the rigor of college-level/concurrent enrollment aircraft maintenance technology classes

  • Advise students in next steps in pursuing a career in aviation

  • Communicate with students and families on student progress

  • Grade student work and enter grades into grading management system for Warren Tech and concurrent enrollment partner

  • Work regularly with counselors, administration, and other support staff to support student success

Classroom Management and Organization:

  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for physical, social, and emotional development of students

  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct

  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities

Marketing & Community Outreach:

  • Ability to market aircraft maintenance technology program to students, staff, parents, and the business community

  • Strong organizational, marketing, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Identify potential business partners as it relates to opportunities for enhancing the aviation education experience

  • Collaborate with local public and private aviation institutes of higher education

  • Develop and promote positive relationships with fellow staff members, industry partners, high schools, the community, and other clientele
