Summary/General Description of Job:
The incumbent performs simple repetitive rigging tasks when the load weight center of gravity the rigging and rigging configuration are provided or known. Can select rigging components and procedures based on rigging capacity. Fabricates erects installs and repairs metal structures parts and assemblies in Aerospace Testing Equipment Buildings and related activities
Essential Duties and Job Functions:
Performs the duties of an Ironworker journeyman
Inspects rigging before use
Performs signal operations
Estimate load weight and center of gravity
Identify lift points
Determine and select rigging based on loading
Identify and attach rigging with knowledge of hitch configurations and load angle factors rigging capacities and load integrity
Understands load dynamics and associated hazards
Provides the ironwork operations for all assigned tasks
Determines quantities sizes shapes and locations of reinforcing steel from blueprints shop drawings sketches or oral instructions
Cuts materials using various methods such as acetylene torches hand tools or powered cutting equipment
Bends reinforcement steel rods with hand tools or rod bending machines
Rigs unloads carries drays and ties reinforcing steel for concrete placement
Positions and secure steel bars rods cables and mesh in concrete forms. Fastens structural steel members to hoist cables using chains cables or rope
Directs crane or lift operators via hand signals or other form of communication operates forklifts man lifts and scissors
Has working knowledge of hoisting equipment winches jacks industrial rollers and similar equipment
Performs other related duties as assigned
Accountable For:
The proper use of tools and equipment commonly used in the field
Completing all mandated training requirements per government and management directives
Timely and cost effective performance of duties
Timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work
Dealing with a variety of people in a professional courteous manner in diversified situations
Adherence to established company safety policies and good industrial and office safety practices
Compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and Personnel policies and procedures
Having the ability to work well under pressure
Mandatory
Minimum high school graduate or equivalent
Minimum five (5) years’ experience at the Journeyman ironworker level
Rigging Level II certification must be current at all times
Proficient with rigging for the hoisting and lifting of materials
Proficient use of Crane hand signals
Familiarity with applicable codes and standards
General knowledge of hand and power tools
Pre-employment Welding Test ½” carbon steel plate (A36) SMAW (E7018) double welded Positions – 2G 3G and 4G – All test coupons will be evaluated by radiography IAW ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section IX Welding and Brazing Qualifications
Must possess and maintain a valid State drivers license with acceptable driving record
Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Must be able to maintain access to the AEDC local area computer network
Must be able to read write and speak English well enough to understand give and take directions
U.S. Citizenship
Open to both Internal and External candidates. Internal candidates will be given priority.
