Army Aviation Heritage Foundation and Flying Museum, Inc.

Job Posting: Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic (Rotary-Wing Aircraft)

The Organization: The Army Aviation Heritage Foundation and Flying Museum (AAHF) is a veteran-centric nonprofit dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Army aviation. We operate the nation’s largest civilian fleet of retired Army helicopters, including UH-1 Huey and AH-1 Cobra aircraft, and bring them to the public through Living History Flight Experiences, flyovers, static displays, and educational programs. Our mission is to honor veterans, inspire the next generation, and keep the legacy of Army aviation alive.

The Opportunity: We are seeking a licensed Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic to join our maintenance team. This is a rare opportunity to work hands-on with historic rotary-wing aircraft, ensuring their continued airworthiness and availability for flight experiences and events nationwide. The ideal candidate brings strong technical skills, a deep respect for aviation safety, and an appreciation for the unique mission of our organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Maintenance Duties:

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on UH-1, AH-1, and other aircraft in the fleet.
  • Troubleshoot and service airframe, powerplant, and rotor systems.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant logbooks, digital records, and FAA documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to FAA regulations and AAHF’s approved inspection programs.
  • Support readiness for Living History Flight Experiences and special event operations.

Leadership & Team Engagement:

  • Work collaboratively with staff and volunteer maintainers, fostering a culture of safety, respect, and teamwork.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to volunteers assisting in maintenance operations.
  • Promote a culture of transparency, communication, and accountability within the hangar and at events.

Desired Qualifications:

  • FAA licensed Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic (required).
  • Inspection Authorization (IA) (strongly preferred).
  • Rotary-wing maintenance experience required; UH-1/AH-1 or Army maintenance background (highly desirable).
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and maintain legacy/vintage aircraft systems.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with peers, staff, and volunteers.
  • Commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills and professional work habits.
  • Ability to travel to support events as needed.
  • Clean background check and ability to pass existing and future drug screenings.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive compensation in the nonprofit aviation sector of $55,000–$70,000 annually, commensurate with experience, IA certification, and type-specific expertise.
  • Unique opportunity to work on and around legendary Army helicopters, including UH-1 Huey and AH-1 Cobra aircraft.
  • Travel opportunities to airshows, veteran events, and public flight demonstrations across the U.S.
  • Meaningful mission supporting veterans, aviation history, and STEM education.
  • Collaborative, veteran-focused culture with opportunities to mentor and engage with volunteers.

Schedule: Full-time role requiring availability for routine weekends, evening hours, and event travel.

If you are a motivated A&P Mechanic who wants to use your skills to keep history flying, we’d love to hear from you. Come be part of a team preserving the aircraft, stories, and spirit of Army aviation while inspiring future generations.
