POSITION: Aeronautics/General Aviation & Drone Technology 49.0101 (CTE) Instructor, full time
LOCATION: Iosco RESA Career and Tech Center, 27 N. Rempert Rd., Tawas City, MI 48763
SUMMARY: Coordinate an ISD Wide Educational Learning Program for the Aeronautics/General Aviation & Drone Technology Program Course that meets the Michigan Guidelines for a CTE Program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor Degree with Secondary Teacher Certification with Vocational Education Endorsement.
OR
• 4,000 hours of work experience in the appropriate CIP code field (49.0101 – General Aviation & Drone Technology)
• FAA Part 107 Certification (UAV Remote Pilot License), additional aviation certifications are a plus but not required (e.g., private pilot, certified flight instructor, or basic ground instructor certificates).
• Hands-on experience with drone flight, UAV technology, or aircraft operation is strongly preferred.
• Previous teaching experience, especially in a Career & Technical Education (CTE) or similar setting, is beneficial but not required.
• Experience in and/or ability to develop partnerships with local businesses and colleges.
• Knowledge in the latest developments and trends in the field of the above content are for the purpose of implementing researched-based instructional practices into daily instruction.
• A passion for working with students, strong communication skills, ability to convey complex technical concepts in an understandable manner, and a proactive and problem-solving mindset with willingness to continuously learn and grow in this career field.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop an instructional plan for the General Aviation & Drone Technology Course, which provides detailed in classroom, lab, and online learning opportunities for students. This plan should follow the approved curriculum for this course as determined by the district and the State of Michigan.
• Teach students about general aviation, including aircraft operation, flight principles, safety protocols, and FAA regulations.
• Teach students in drone technology, including UAV operation, flight planning, safety, maintenance, and basic drone repairs.
• Deliver both classroom instruction and hands-on lab experiences to help students build practical skills.
• Develop and implement course materials, assignments, and assessments aligned with state standards and industry requirements. Prepare students for relevant certifications, such as FAA Part 107 (UAV Remote Pilot Certification)
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
• Cultivate a positive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment.
• Maintain a current advisory committee involved in business and industry.
• Provide a leadership role in the development of professional and post-secondary partnerships. This will enable the teacher to stay informed about industry trends and advancements in aviation and drone technology to provide up-to-date learning experiences.
• Collaborate with fellow instructors to enhance curriculum and student opportunities through cross-curriculum experiences and shared career experiences, such as using drones in construction and business applications.
• Monitor assigned district-owned equipment and supplies to prevent loss or abuse.
SALARY RANGE: According to Master Contract
