The Boeing Test & Evaluation (BT & E) organization is seeking an Environmental Lab Test Design Manager to join our team in Berkeley, MO.

The Design Manager is a role within the Environmental Test Engineering organization that leads a team of design and manufacturing engineers that complete the design and fabrication liaison portion of the lab test work statement accomplished through the Environmental Test capability.  Efforts represent a wide variety of research and production programs primarily in support of Boeing Defense & Space (BDS) and can also include Boeing Technology Innovation and non-Boeing test activities. The focus of the team is to provide services that include test article design, test article adaptation and support structure design, lab facility interface design, fabrication sourcing and coordination, strength analysis, electrical system design (interface/control/instrumentation/etc.), and functional check-out. The team works in partnership with the lab test teams to provide the designs and hardware needed to complete safe, high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective testing for all stakeholders.

The Environmental labs support testing across a breadth of requirements including acoustic, vibration, shock, structural dynamics, airflow systems, fuel flow systems, high temperature flow impingement, thermal, and environmental control. Test hardware design needs, run the spectrum from mounting fixtures to aircraft sub-assemblies and everything in between, including test instrumentation and data acquisition.

The successful candidate will have experience in test & evaluation engineering with a high aptitude for leadership and execution. Experience with lab/ground test and design engineering are desired for this position. Background in fabrication approaches and techniques is also desired.

Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage employees performing activities within multiple (2 or more) Engineering disciplines
  • Develop and execute project and process plans, implement policies and procedures and set operational goals
  • Acquire resources for projects and processes, provide technical management of suppliers and lead process improvements
  • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports
  • Provide oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes
  • Manage, develop and motivate employees

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 5+ years of engineering experience
  • 3+ years of experience in technical leadership
  • 1+ years of experience leading or managing a team

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in test & evaluation engineering
  • Experience with hardware design
  • Experience in military program support
  • Experience with fabrication approaches and techniques
  • Excellent communication skills
