The Project Engineer is a strong technical leader responsible for managing the overall engineering effort on aircraft interior programs. The Project Engineer is responsible for leading an engineering team from all diosciplines in the planning and execution of all engineering activities in support of the program.
SCOPE OF POSITION
The Project Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
+ Creates and maintains a project plan monitors the progress of the design against the plan; informs management when schedule will not be met so that adjustments can be made.
+ Manage multiple programs.
+ Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel in all engineering disciplines to specific aspects or phases of project such as analysis development or design.
+ Responsible for and evaluates product design for conformance to engineering principles and compliance to regulatory requirements customer requirements quality standards and specifications.
+ Identifies establishes defines and tracks all design criteria associated with the product throughout the duration of the project and disseminates them to all engineers involved.
+ Responsible for monitoring managing and meeting the weight and schedule targets for the project.
+ Responsible for financial targets as established by the RFQ budget with regards to Bill of Materials Tooling Materials Processes and other KPI as applicable.
+ Reviews and evaluates product request from customer and formulates conceptual design to meet customer requirements.
+ Leads and manages the design input to all customer and internal design review meetings including ITCM Kick-Off PDRs IDRs CDR FAI and Program Reviews.
+ Monitors scope of work changes that may affect schedule cost or weight and communicates impacts to the Program Manager.
+ Evaluates and approves design changes and drawing releases.
+ Ensures up-front integration of Industrial Design requirements.
+ Creates updates and manages the Top Down BOM for the project to ensure both a timely drawing release and an on-time First Article Inspection (FAI).
+ Creates WBS in accordance with SOW RFQ and project plan.
+ Supports the functional groups in promoting adherence to design standards including the Approved Material List (AML).
+ Defines the test requirements necessary to satisfy regulatory certification requirements.
+ Manages the Technology Readiness Level of the product. Requests and coordinates the construction of samples mockups prototypes and the execution of development tests to minimize the failure risk of materials or designs.
+ Coordinates activities to evaluate and resolve engineering related production and installation problems.
+ Sets design criteria against which detail drawings and sub-assemblies are checked.
+ Ensures that all drawings are correct and have been checked and are released according to schedule.
+ Issues design memos and meeting minutes to provide a technical description of the system/component document a major design evolution and obtain approval of design approaches and features.
+ Responsible for meeting all data submittal requirements required by the airframe manufacturer the customer and/or regulatory agency.
+ Maintains the certified status of the project
+ Responsible for notifying certification departments throughout the program including production of changes to the design that impact certification aspects.
+ Coordinates the preparation of technical publications for the project
+ Contributes to the preparation of proposals including the development of statements of work non-recurring engineering estimates and end item kit lists.
+ Prepares poject status reports for management.
+ Promote and support 6s Kaizen and other Zodiac sponsored Lean activities.
+ Participate and contribute to 6s and Lean activities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
+ Bachelor degree in applicable engineering discipline or equivalent experience required
+ 7 - 10 years engineering in the aerospace industry with emphasis on interiors retrofit/re-configuration
+ Project management experience preferred

OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
+ Basic knowledge of MS Office Products (Excel Outlook Word)
+ Demonstrated proficiency with PC Based Design and Programming software (Catia V5 preferred)
+ Excellent blueprint reading skills
+ Ability to work OT as needed during high customer demand
+ Normal office conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
+ Standard workweek often exceeds 40 hours/week.
