Sheet Met Mechanic
The Structures Mechanic repairs replaces and rebuilds aircraft structures such as wings and fuselage using hand tools power tools machines and equipment such as shears sheet metal brake welding equipment rivet gun and drills. Reads and interprets manufacturers and airlines maintenance manuals service bulletins technical data engineering data and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components. The Structures Mechanic maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of varying degrees of difficulty; applies technical knowledge of airframe components; applies required expertise in conducting structural repairs and modifications; and applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems. The position does not require the candidate to be licensed by Federal Aviation Administration but FAA A&P certification is desirable. Must have own tools (specialty and calibrated tools provided). JUNIOR STRUCTURES MECHANICIn addition to those items listed above the candidate must have a general to broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair; and must have thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools associated with structural repairs such as test equipment torque wrenches dial indicators micrometers cable tensiometers sheet metal brakes and sheers etc. This job requires working knowledge of technical publications. The incumbent receives technical guidance and training as required from supervisor or higher-level technician. Must be able to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects. SENIOR STRUCTURES MECHANICIn addition to those items listed above the candidate must possess a minimum of 4 years of documented experience as an Aircraft Structures Mechanic and documented training and/or certification on a variety of aircraft models. Applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufacturers manuals. Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair. A detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment torque wrenches dial indicators micrometers cable tensiometers sheet metal brakes and sheers etc is required.The Senior Structures Mechanic must possess experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers and excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule. This worker may be responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or repair efforts. A Federal Aviation Administration FAA A&P certification is recommended for Senior Structures Mechanics
