We have an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Airframe Engineer within our Airframe Design Group at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems. This position leads the development of prototype composite aircraft structures as a lead structural design engineer in the Advanced Aircraft Development Department. Position focuses on composite airframe structural design and analysis and conceptualizing creating validating and documenting structural designs using composite and metallic materials. Methods include the use of sketches CAD demonstration of airframe structural load paths hand calculations and FE tools to develop high performance airframe structures.Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Lead aircraft/airframe primary structural layout sizing and detail analyses to validate/optimize structural load paths and strength margins in a rapid paced environment.
+ Deliver high quality error free designs using concise documentation (typically PowerPoint); ensuring compliance with engineering principles JSSG STANAG NAVAIR and company standards.
+ Assignments will include conceptual aircraft and airframe assembly / part design detail assembly / part analysis joint sizing primary structural layout trade study analysis and weight reduction efforts.
+ General oversight of the manufacturing of prototype parts.
+ Position requires in-depth knowledge of classical and numerical (Finite Element) stress analysis methods.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Word and PowerPoint) required. Knowledge of composite and metallic materials and structural joints.
+ Capable of leading a group of 2-10 engineers on a project and mentoring less experienced engineers and working with other designers to effectively execute designs
+ Capable of working independently with intermediate reviews.
+ Can accept broad objectives with reasonable deadlines but establishes and communicates the tasks required and how they should be completed.
+ Ability to document and present information in a concise approach.
+ Utilizes tool sets at an intermediate to advance level depending on classificationJob Qualifications:
+ Typically requires a bachelors degree masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelors degree ten or more years of experience with a masters degree or seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
+ CATIA V5 or Pro/Engineer-CREO CAD. Pro/Mechanica Nastran or Abaqus FE tools use or familiarly. Composite ply modeling using either FiberSim or CATIA CPD.
+ Composite airframe layout/design/sizing classical hand calculations Finite Element Analysis free-body analysis and MathCad or Excel experience desired.
+ Composite part tooling fabrication and repair experience desired.
+ Hands on automotive aircraft or manufacturing ability considered a plus.
+ Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
+ Strong communication presentation and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other departments and/or professionals and capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact as well as providing leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
+ Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
+ Able to work extended hours as required.Travel Percentage Required:
