Job Title: Occupational Safety Consultant (Aviation Advisor) NOC 22232
Location: Home Office based with travel throughout the Americas and abroad (valid passport required).
Job Type: Full Time (40 hours per week)

Wage: $160,000 CAD/year

Job Description:

As an Aviation Occupational Safety Advisor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient execution of aviation operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of aviation standards, compliance requirements, and risk management, particularly within mining-related aviation programs. Experience with the Basic Aviation Risk Standard (BARS) is highly advantageous.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid Transport Canada/FAA/EASA commercial helicopter/fixed-wing license with a minimum of 2,000 Hours PIC (Pilot in Command).
  • Previous experience in roles such as Operations Manager, Chief Pilot, Training Pilot, or Safety Manager. (5+ Years).
  • Significant experience in aviation operations, with a focus on mining-related aviation programs.
  • Strong background in aviation safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in technical writing to produce detailed reports and documentation.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proven ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in high-stakes environments.
  • In-depth understanding of the Flight Safety Foundation - Basic Aviation Risk Standard (BARS).
  • Completion of the BARS - Managing Contracted Aviation Risk training is highly desirable.

Risk Management Background:

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks impacting aviation operations.
  • Apply technical knowledge and business acumen to evaluate and manage risks effectively.
  • Develop and implement risk management policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Lead initiatives that enhance safety, reduce incidents, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and participate in workplace audits, investigations, and inspections related to safety concerns, incidents, accidents, and compliance to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Collaborate with project managers, aviation teams, and equipment operators to ensure compliance with both organization-specific and government health, safety, and aviation regulations and standards.
  • Develop, implement, and provide training on health and safety programs, standard operating procedures, policies, and risk management strategies to mitigate hazards and optimize the health and safety of workers across various environments, including exploration, environmental projects, and aviation operations.
  • Initiate enforcement procedures for workplaces and aviation operations contravening organizational and regulatory safety standards.
  • Provide expert guidance on safe and efficient helicopter/fixed-wing-supported exploration and environmental projects, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and safety regulations.
  • Conduct operational reviews, assessments, and safety audits to identify non-compliance issues, recommend improvements, and implement corrective actions to enhance safety protocols.
  • Stay updated on industry regulations, aviation safety practices, and best practices, ensuring that teams are informed and equipped to meet evolving safety standards.
  • Communicate, engage, and influence decision-makers, workers, and stakeholders to ensure full compliance with health, safety, and aviation legislation, promoting a positive safety culture across all operational levels.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, documentation, and safety assessments for internal and external stakeholders to ensure transparency and continuous improvement in safety practices.
  • Offer strategic guidance and technical expertise in the development and execution of tailored aviation management plans and safety practices, ensuring that all team members understand and follow risk management strategies.
  • Engage with aircraft operators, frontline staff, and project teams to promote effective safety measures, risk management strategies, and best practices in both aviation and workplace environments.
