Job Summary:
The Lead Cleaner is responsible for overseeing daily cleaning and sanitation operations within an FAA Part 145 Repair Station. This role ensures all maintenance areas, shop floors, offices, restrooms, and support spaces meet strict cleanliness, safety, and FOD?control standards required in an aviation maintenance environment. The Lead Cleaner provides hands?on cleaning support while directing a team of cleaners, assigning tasks, inspecting work, and coordinating with Repair Station leadership to maintain a safe, compliant, and audit?ready facility.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight
Assign daily cleaning tasks and ensure team members understand priorities, safety requirements, and FAA?aligned FOD?control expectations.
Train new cleaners on proper cleaning techniques, chemical handling, PPE use, and equipment operation.
Monitor staff performance and provide coaching to maintain high standards of cleanliness and professionalism.
Serve as the on?site lead, communicating with Repair Station management and reporting issues promptly.
Ensure cleaning staff follow all facility, OSHA, and FAA Part 145 safety protocols.
Cleaning & Sanitation
Perform cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting, and restroom sanitation.
Maintain cleanliness of maintenance bays, shop floors, tool rooms, parts storage areas, offices, breakrooms, and high?traffic spaces.
Support Foreign Object Debris (FOD) prevention by ensuring debris, loose materials, and hazards are removed promptly.
Operate cleaning equipment such as auto?scrubbers, buffers, vacuums, and extractors.
Follow proper procedures for handling chemicals and cleaning agents in accordance with OSHA and Repair Station guidelines.
Quality Control
Conduct routine inspections to verify cleanliness, FOD?control compliance, and readiness for maintenance operations.
Identify areas needing improvement and address deficiencies immediately.
Document inspection results and corrective actions as required by Repair Station procedures.
Support preparation for FAA audits, customer inspections, and internal quality reviews.
Supplies & Equipment
Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and request replenishment as needed.
Ensure cleaning equipment is maintained, stored properly, and reported for repair when necessary.
Maintain accurate logs of supply usage, equipment condition, and special cleaning tasks.
Communication & Coordination
Coordinate with MRO and Quality leadership regarding special cleaning projects, spill response, or schedule changes.
Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or incidents promptly.
Support smooth shift transitions by communicating updates to incoming staff.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
1–3 years of commercial, industrial, or facility cleaning experience.
Prior experience in a lead or senior cleaning role preferred.
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety procedures.
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
Ability to work independently and guide a team effectively.
Ability to follow FAA Part 145 safety, FOD, and facility protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an aviation, MRO, or FAA?regulated environment.
Familiarity with FOD?control programs, tool?control areas, and shop?floor safety.
Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and PPE requirements.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
Experience with industrial floor?care equipment such as auto?scrubbers and buffers.
Work Environment:
FAA Part 145 Repair Station environment with exposure to chemicals, equipment, aircraft parts, and industrial noise.
Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the shift.
Strict adherence to PPE, FOD control, and safety protocols is required.
Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support operational requirements
Require overtime or shift work based on operational needs
