The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at Colorado State University (CSU) offers a curriculum that integrates exceptional classroom learning and in-depth engineering practice for an unparalleled educational experience. Made up of 46 faculty members 13 staff members 948 undergraduate students and 138 graduate students ME is one of the largest departments on CSUs campus. State-of-the-art labs provide unmatched hands-on experience to help undergraduate students conceptualize industry environments and $7.5M in annual research funding provide groundbreaking opportunities focusing on health materials and energy for graduate students to enhance their educational concentrations. Colorado State University recently launched an Aerospace Engineering Program and is looking for Adjunct Faculty to teach the following courses:

  • Aircraft Design - Principles of aircraft configuration and design to meet performance specifications with special emphasis on aerodynamics stability control and flying quality considerations.
  • Orbital Mechanics - Basic orbital mechanics trajectory design and simulation mission integration rocket propulsion and performance in the undergraduate course. Interplanetary mission design N-body trajectory design and simulation guidance and navigation and total system mission design optimization methods in the graduate course.
  • Space Propulsion and Power Engineering - Orbital mechanics and space missions; chemical nuclear and electric rockets nuclear heat sources thermoelectric and photovoltaic devices.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for positions of Adjunct Faculty:

  • Instructor
  • Senior Instructor
  • Master Instructor
  • Assistant Professor
  • Associate Professor
  • [Full] Professor

Adjunct Faculty typically have significant experience in industry or academia and want to work part-time by teaching 1-2 courses per semester or 1-2 courses per academic year. Individuals selected for these positions will be assigned one of the six working titles listed above based on education and experience. Specifically selected individuals who have an MS will have a working title of Instructor Senior Instructor or Master Instructor; selected individuals who have a PhD will have a working title of Assistant Professor Associate Professor or Professor.

Within those two working titles selected individuals who have > 5 years of experience will have a working title of Senior Instructor or Associate Professor; selected individuals who have > 10 years of experience will have a working title of Master Instructor or [Full] Professor.

Conditions of Employment Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires) Required Job Qualifications

  • Applicants for the Instructor series must hold a Master of Science degree
  • Applicants for the Professor series must hold a PhD in Engineering
  • Experience teaching Undergraduate and/or Graduate Mechanical / Aerospace Engineering courses
