Duties

You will serve as a AIR DEFENSE WATCH SPECIALIST and be responsible for provides coordination among representatives of the Coast Guard (CG) Department of Defense (DOD) US Secret Service Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) US Capital Police and Customs and Border Patrol with the host agency the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

Serving as an air defense watch specialist responsible for monitoring airspace within the DC SRFA and Flight Restricted Zone (FRZ) through surveillance of sophisticated radar systems computer networks and applications provided by North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Customs and Border Protection Air Marine Operations (CBP) to ensure compliance and maintain the security of NCR airspace.

Identifying track of interest (TOI) within the SFRA and determining if the TOI meets requirements to be operating in that location.

Monitoring multiple communication networks that involve continuous use of radios telephones Domestic Events Network (DEN) DOD Secure Red Switch Network (DRSN) and computer chat rooms established to maintain situational awareness and communicate with multiple agencies and DHS assets to facilitate information sharing and operational awareness.

Collecting compiling and disseminating mission generated detailed information Including times locations and commands given by controlling agency to ensure threat and incident information is properly acquired tracked and archived.

Maintaining situational awareness of all threats or incidents and acquire additional information on unfolding threats or events from federal state or local agencies to ensure communication.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience or substitution of education for experience or combination (if applicable) in order to be found minimally qualified. Transcripts must be submitted with your application package. You MUST meet the following requirements:

To qualify at the GS-11 grade level applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability skill and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include the following:

Knowledge of air program strategies tactics and interdiction and interception of suspect aircraft and vessels

Utilizing a range of communication equipment specifically VHF (AM/FM) and UHF radios

Applying various principles concepts and practices of command and control and law enforcement tactics as they relate to the utilization of air assets conducting law enforcement operations; and writing and distributing situation reports for aircraft/vessel interception.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability skill and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

National Service Experience (i.e. volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religious spiritual community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.

The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. You will serve as a AIR DEFENSE WATCH SPECIALIST and be responsible for provides coordination among representatives of the Coast Guard (CG) Department of Defense (DOD) US Secret Service Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) US Capital Police and Customs and Border Patrol with the host agency the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

Serving as an air defense watch specialist responsible for monitoring airspace within the DC SRFA and Flight Restricted Zone (FRZ) through surveillance of sophisticated radar systems computer networks and applications provided by North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Customs and Border Protection Air Marine Operations (CBP) to ensure compliance and maintain the security of NCR airspace.

Identifying track of interest (TOI) within the SFRA and determining if the TOI meets requirements to be operating in that location.

Monitoring multiple communication networks that involve continuous use of radios telephones Domestic Events Network (DEN) DOD Secure Red Switch Network (DRSN) and computer chat rooms established to maintain situational awareness and communicate with multiple agencies and DHS assets to facilitate information sharing and operational awareness.

Collecting compiling and disseminating mission generated detailed information Including times locations and commands given by controlling agency to ensure threat and incident information is properly acquired tracked and archived.

Maintaining situational awareness of all threats or incidents and acquire additional information on unfolding threats or events from federal state or local agencies to ensure communication.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience or substitution of education for experience or combination (if applicable) in order to be found minimally qualified. To qualify at the GS-11 grade level applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability skill and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include the following:

Knowledge of air program strategies tactics and interdiction and interception of suspect aircraft and vessels

Utilizing a range of communication equipment specifically VHF (AM/FM) and UHF radios

Applying various principles concepts and practices of command and control and law enforcement tactics as they relate to the utilization of air assets conducting law enforcement operations; and writing and distributing situation reports for aircraft/vessel interception.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability skill and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

National Service Experience (i.e. volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religious spiritual community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
