The purpose of the indefinite appointment is to backfill a deployed Soldier. The indefinite appointment will be terminated within 30 days of return of the incumbent to the position.JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to pilot a variety of aircraft in support of the AASF logistical and operations missions.NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.The major duties include but are not limited to: Pilots a variety of fixed wing twin engine airplanes and utility helicopters to transport passengers and cargo to and from a variety of points. Performs maintenance operation checks (MOCs) and limited and general test flights of aircraft to ensure airworthiness upon completion of extensive disassembly for maintenance repair or replacement of components or aircraft systems. Operates aircraft with short takeoff and landing capability generally in good or fair weather conditions but may include all types of weather day and night over terrain such as forests marshlands mountain ranges and open seas. Performs general or limited test flights of aircraft when ground diagnostic tests cannot determine the safe and/or proper functioning of aircraft components or systems. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance. Must possess a valid state drivers license. No record of claustrophobia or claustrophobic tendencies.QualificationsMANDATORY QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must possess Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates -OR- appropriate military certifications military ratings in the main-frame military aircraft of employment and the required competencies (knowledge skills and abilities).GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have a competent understanding of the occupations basic principles and concepts. Applicants should have a minimum of one year on-the-job experience in the grade (or a comparable military rank) immediately below the next higher level.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 24 months of specialized experience in the following: Experience in civilian aviation programs; or in military service aviation programs (active duty or reserve components); or in the Army National Guard Aviation Support facilities; or in Air National Guard Wing/ Operations Groups. Experience in operating a specific main-frame military aircraft mission planning and mission preparation. Experience in reviewing and analyzing mission tasking intelligence and weather information. Experienced in filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings. Experience in aircraft preflight inspections aircraft loading and equipment assessments. Experience in performing or supervising work procedures involved in navigation in-flight refueling search and rescue operations or surveillance and reconnaissance. Experience demonstrating competence in conducting or supervising the training of crew members in simple to complex mission specific tasks. Experience in developing plans and policies monitoring operations and advising commanders. Experience demonstrating knowledge is required in flight theory air navigation meteorology flying directives mission tactics and operating procedures. Experience in the unit flying explosive and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of Defense Department of the Army National Guard Bureau and/or Occupational Safety and Health Administration policies regulations and directives.KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to perform functional check flights on single or twin-engine helicopters after repair or replacement of damaged or worn components extensive maintenance has been performed or approved modifications have been made to the aircraft systems. Ability to perform standard operational tests to determine whether the aircraft systems are functioning correctly and to verify that predetermined flight and performance characteristics have been restored. Knowledge of the operational capabilities and limitations of the aircraft. Ability to fly aircraft during day and night over all kinds of terrain and in any weather. Ability to serve as pilot or copilot on various missions involving training operational and/or administrative flights. Ability to participate in tactical flights and weaponry training. Ability to develop new policies for the maintenance program. Ability to plan exercises or mission operations. Ability to coordinate with various unit functions to accomplish scheduled aircraft maintenance. Ability to determine requirements for safety programs. Ability to conduct safety inspections and studies. Ability to review reports of alleged flying violations and initiate corrective actions. Ability to advise commanders and staff officers on maintenance problems and status of maintenance programs.COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: For an indefinite appointment which is to backfill a deployed technician MOS and unit of assignment are waived for 18 months following assignment. However rank requirement must be met to avoid grade inversion.MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Application): Warrant: CW2 through CW4COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: WOBR: 15UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation unit within stateSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles candidates must have a valid state drivers license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.EducationNo substitution of education for specialized experience.
