### Summary
This position is part of the Pacific Northwest Regional Aviation Group located in Region 6 in Redmond Oregon.

The primary responsibilities for the incumbent are performing maintenance on Working Capital Fleet (WCF) aircraft assigned to the region and ensuring it is completed as required serve as a Contracting Officers Representative (COR) providing oversight for maintenance and parts contracts servicing WCF aircraft and to provide technical expertise and advice on issues regarding aviation maintenance.
The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional) Temporary and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority any U.S. citizen may apply.

### Responsibilities
Provides support to the Working Capital Fund (WCF) Fleet aircraft maintenance program assigned to the region
Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on WCF aircraft
Provides operational and technical expertise to US Forest Service aviation operations consisting of contracted resources as well as government owned and operated aircraft
Supports both the regional and national aviation programs regarding development and implementation of policies programs and standard practices as they relate to aviation maintenance
Participates as directed in training programs/sessions for agency personnel
Participates in aircraft inspections of contracted resources (rotary and fixed-wing aircraft)
Ensures compliance with Forest Service policy and other regulatory agencies’ requirements
### Travel Required
25% or less - Supporting multiple aircrafts for maintenance may require possible overnight stays. May travel for meetings and or trainings.

General Requirements for All Positions:
Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years;
Valid State drivers license;
Fluency in the English language;
No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance; and
High school diploma or equivalent.
Medical Requirements for All Positions:
Applicants must be physically able to perform the duties of the Aviation Safety Inspector position in a safe and efficient manner and must meet all of the following requirements:
Have good distant vision in each eye and be able to read printed materials the size of typewritten characters (glasses and contact lenses permitted) without strain;
Have the ability to hear the conversational voice (hearing aid permitted);
Not have any physical condition that would cause them to be a hazard to themselves or others or that would interfere with their ability to fly as passengers in a variety of aircraft.
All applicants must possess an Airframe and Power Plant License. (A&P; License). Applicants must attach a copy of this license with their application. FAILURE TO SUBMIT THE LICENSE WILL RENDER THE APPLICANT INELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.

Experience/Certification Requirements:
Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes power plants and aircraft systems with responsibility for certifying airworthiness.
Maintenance experience with aircraft 12500 pounds or less maximum certificated takeoff weight.
Aircraft maintenance experience in a repair station; air carrier or airline repair facility; military repair facility; or local state or Federal governmental agency.
Aircraft maintenance work experience within the last 3 years.
FAA Mechanic Certificate with airframe and power plant ratings.
In addition to the requirements described above the following experience is required for the GS-11 level. Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level.
Examples of specialized experience are: Assisted in managing an aviation maintenance program that included conducting routine inspections of organizations for compliance with their approved programs and procedures; inspected light single- and twin-engine piston aircraft for airworthiness; and assisted in scheduling inspections and maintenance actions.
Work Experience: Your resume must clearly document the following for each block of work experience; the beginning day month and year the work assignment started and ended; the hours worked per week; position title and series and grade if applicable; and description of duties performed. This information must be provided for each permanent temporary or seasonal appointment/work assignment or volunteer work and should be clearly documented as a separate block of time. Incomplete inaccurate or conflicting work history may not be credited for qualifications purposes. This can result in an applicant not being considered for the position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.
