SUMMARY: The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) is an international trade association headquartered in Washington, DC representing over 100 of the world's leading manufacturers of general aviation aircraft, engines, avionics and related equipment (www.GAMA.aero). GAMA is seeking a Manager/Director, Engineering & Airworthiness responsible for GAMA's activities related to regulatory requirements and policies governing the design, airworthiness and certification approval of general aviation aircraft and equipment. Candidates for this position must have an aviation technical background and experience with FAA aircraft and avionics equipment type certification and TSO approval processes as well as excellent communications skills and a desire to make a difference in aviation. The position is located in the GAMA Washington, DC office.
SPECIFIC DUTIES: The Manager/Director, Engineering & Airworthiness is responsible for monitoring, reviewing and advocating for policy and regulatory activities of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and other government and industry standards organizations related to the design, airworthiness, certification and/or approval of general aviation aircraft and avionics and other equipment to address the current and future needs of the GA industry. The employee will facilitate the development of an appropriate GAMA position through coordination with member companies, industry stakeholders and government policy offices. In addition, this person is primarily responsible for supporting GAMA’s Avionics and Electronic Systems Subcommittee (AVI) which addresses technical policy, industry standards and regulatory activities affecting the development, certification and operational use of new aviation technologies and equipment. Additional duties include participation in government rulemaking committees and industry standards organizations; building and maintaining working relationships with aviation authority policy staff and leadership; preparation of briefings, position papers, and data packages; and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in an aviation technical field such as aerospace engineering or avionics technology and a minimum of 5-years related work experience. A detailed understanding of FAA and EASA regulatory system required with practical experience in the interpretation and application of airworthiness requirements and type certification processes for aviation products and Technical Standard Order (TSO) articles. The applicant must possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills and an ability to work independently. The position is located in the GAMA Washington, DC office and requires U.S. and international travel.
