Public Service Interns receive training and complete a variety of assignments in staff activities directly relating to their major course of study while enrolled in an educational institution.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge skills and abilities required in this occupation.

This internship is a rare opportunity to log flight hours while receiving valuable on-the job training from experienced pilots. This position offers a steady weekday schedule with extremely rare overnight stays and weekend flights and the chance to join our unique Flight Operations team. The position is located in Carson City Nevada which blends a mix of shopping dining entertainment culture nightlife and old-fashioned western charm. With close proximity to Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountains the area boasts unlimited year-round activities including fishing boating hiking biking hunting world-class skiing golf courses and many special events. This recruitment will be used to fill multiple Public Service Intern vacancies in Flight Operations over the next six months. Incumbents will: act as co-pilot on NDOT aircraft currently a jet Citation II and a turboprop Commander 840; assist in the development of operations and procedures manuals; provide administrative back-up assistance as needed; and maintain hangar facilities and aircraft. The six-month internship will cover all facets of state flight operations. Interns may be selected for additional six-month internships. Women and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. In order to be qualified you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelors degree related to the field of employment and enrollment and continued successful performance in an academic graduate program related to the field of employment at an accredited college or university.
Employment is not to exceed six months from the date of graduation.
A valid drivers license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066 this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

A copy of your transcripts showing current enrollment and continued successful performance at an accredited University or Community College System in an Aviation field of study must be attached to your application at the time of submittal. Failure to attach your transcripts will result in the denial of your application.
The incumbent will act as Second-In-Command (SIC) pilot on NDOT aircraft and therefore must hold an FAA Commercial Pilot Certification with Multi-Engine Land and Instrument Airplane ratings.
