As a member of MITREsOperations Optimizationdepartmentyouwillpartnerwith the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)and other aviation stakeholdersto modernize the National Airspace Systemadvance thesafety and efficiencyof air travel andenablenew uses of this national resource.Working individually and as a team member you willconduct exploratory data analyses anddevelopconceptsin support ofinformingand advancingFAAand other Governmental sponsoring organizationinitiatives that improve theaccess security efficiencyand safety of National Airspace System operations.Key Responsibilities Include:Extracting and summarizing data and performing statistical analysis to draw conclusions about the efficacy of airspace designs instrument flight procedures air traffic systems and other concepts and initiativesDeveloping models and performing simulations to draw conclusions about the efficacy of proposed airspace designs instrument flight procedures air traffic systems and other concepts and initiativesContextualizing a wide array of aircraft and aviation system data to provide defensible and meaningful interpretations of results in both written and verbal formBasic Qualifications:BS Degree and at least 8+ years of related experienceRequired Qualifications:Demonstrates ability to scope plan execute and document analysis on large data sets to identify patterns trends and emerging behaviors and independently draw conclusionsStrong skills with programming/scripting languages (R Python etc.) and familiarity with associated statistical analysis packagesPreferredQualifications:Strong skills in applying appropriate statistical data analysis methods and machine learning techniquesExperience working in the aviation domain and with aviation data sest including with radar data and FAA/industry data sets (e.g. ASPM OOOI ASQP Form 41 OPSNET O/D Survey etc.)Additional background in the field of aviation: pilot air traffic control/traffic management airline operations unmanned aircraft systems (drones) space launch and reentryThis requisition requires the following clearance(s):MITRE is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
